Typhoon Bebeng PAGASA Weather Update- 5:00 A.M.- May 10, 2011

Update on Typhoon Bebeng issued at 5:00 am. At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "BEBENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 120 km Southeast of Basco, Batanes (19.5 °N, 122.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move North Northeast at 17 kph.

 
Forecast:
The provinces of Cagayan, Apayao, Batanes and the islands of Babuyan and Calayan will have occasional rains and gusty winds. The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will experience monsoon rains. The rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northwest and Southwest will prevail over the Western section of Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds blowing from the Southeast to Southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas.

PAGASA pdate as at 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm "BEBENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 50 km East of Tuguegarao City (17.5 °N, 122.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move North at 15 kph.

Forecast:

Northern Luzon will have occasional rains and occasional gusty winds becoming stormy over the Eastern section. The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will experience cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest to South will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas and coming from the South over the rest of Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the South with slight to moderate seas.

At 4:00 am today, Tropical Storm "BEBENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 60 kms Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora (15.9 °N, 122.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move North Northwest at 15 kph.

Forecast:
Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga and Cagayan will experience stormy weather while Camarines Norte, Northern Quezon icluding Polilio Island, Nueva Ecija, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Babuyan, Calayan and Batanes will have rains with gusty winds. The rest of luzon will experience rains while Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Typhoon Bebeng PAGASA Weather Update- Metro Manila Signal No.1

At 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm "BEBENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 70 km North of Daet, Camarines Norte (14.8°N, 123.1°E) with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move Northwest at 15 kph.

By Monday evening, Tropical Storm "BEBENG" is expected to reach its location at 60 km East of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. PAGASA forecast further stated that Bagyong "BEBENG" will be at 60 km North of Basco, Batanes and at 380 km North of Northeast of Basco, Batanes by Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, respectively.

Albay and Burias Island are not now experiencing Storm Signal No. 1 at 30-60 kph winds. But Ifugao and Isabela are now on alert level 2. Metro Manila, and neighboring provinces are still on alert level 1.

Public Storm Warning Signals elsewhere are now lowered.

Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes under signal #2 and #1 are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone, PAGASA advised.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 AM Monday.

Tornado hits Calumpit Bulacan

According to GMANews report,  tornado hit Calumpit, Bulacan on Saturday night and around 500 people were affected after.

Though there is no report of casualties, still the authorities said they are still investigating if the death of one Alberto Tolentino, who died of heart attack, was triggered by the tornado.

Provincial Disaster Risk Management Office chief Felicisima Mungcal said that based on their initial reports, the tornado whirled through barangays Balungao, Frances, San Miguel, Sapang Bayan, Poblacion, Meysulao, Corazon and Gatbuca at 6 p.m. The twister lasted for 30 minutes.

Typhoon Bebeng- Update

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the storm was spotted 220 kilometers east of Legazpi City and was moving northwest at 13 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Bebeng (international codename: Aere) , which was upgraded to storm from tropical depression category Saturday afternoon due to its increased strength, had center winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph. Tropical depressions have maximum wind strength of 60 kph.

SYNOPSIS: At 5:00 p.m. today, Tropical Depression "BEBENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 220 km East of Legaspi City (13.2°N, 125.9°E) with maximum winds of 65 kph near the center. It is forecast to move Northwest at 13 kph.

Shane Mosley PETA Ads: "I choose to fight. Dogs don’t. Dogfighting is for cowards. Don’t do it."

“Dogfighting is dirty, it’s cruel, and it’s a loser’s game,” says boxing champ Shane Mosley in new the new PETA public service announcement on television.

He might not be the hometown favorite when he squares off against Manny Pacquiao this weekend, but “Sugar” Shane Mosley will be gaining fans left and right with his new anti-dogfighting ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA) Asia. In the ad, the World Boxing Association welterweight super champion poses in the ring alongside the words “I Choose to Fight. Dogs Don’t. Dogfighting Is for Cowards. Don’t Do it.”

The new campaign also includes a 25-second public service announcement (PSA) for TV. In the TV spot, Mosley explains, “My opponents and I know that when we stepinto the ring, we choose to be there and that if we don’t come out on top, we can at least walk away. Dogfighting isn’t like that.” He concludes, “Dogfighting is dirty, it’s cruel, and it’s a loser’s game.”

Dogfighting is a vicious blood sport that leaves animals mangled and maimed. Even though it is illegal in the Philippines, dogfighting continues to thrive and is kept hidden from public view. PETA has seen dogs after they were forced to fight - they are left ripped apart, bloody, soaked in urine, unable to walk, and covered with cuts, bruises, and scars. The “losers” of these fights are often killed by their handlers.

Mosley joins a growing list of athletes and other celebrities - including Tito Ortiz, Ron Artest, Michael Strahan, Mac Danzig, Carey Hart, and many more - who have teamed up with PETA to speak out against animal abuse.

Tornadoes unleashed by Storms on Alabama

A tornado has ripped through the town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, decimating homes and businesses, killing 15 people and bringing the death toll across the American South to at least 64 on Wednesday, April 27, 2011.

NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, estimated there were 173 tornadoes Wednesday, a new record for a single storm system in modern times.

President Obama called the loss of life "heartbreaking," and promised those affected by the storms the full support of the federal government.

"We can't control when or where a terrible storm may strike, but we can control how we respond to it," Obama said during a press conference today at the White House. "I want every American that's been affected by this disaster to know the federal government will do everything we can to help you recover and we will stand with you as you rebuild." Read More...

Google Doodle- Celebrate Audobon

As you can see on your Google Homepage, today Google Doodle celebrates  the 226th birthday of John James Audubon, the great ornithologist and naturalist, famous for “Birds of America.”

Audubon was a French-American ornithologist born on April 26, 1785 in Saint Dominique (Haiti) and died aged 65 in New York. The Google Doodle itself is a simple design of various birds on branches, and the spaces between the birds spell out the word Google although we admit that’s pretty hard to spot. The 435 life-size illustrations for “Birds of America” were hand-painted by Audubon himself and engraved on copper plates and are world-renowned and the book listed 700 North American birds, according to Wikipedia.
