Glutathione Injections Health Alert- What is Glutathione?

Health Warning for those using Glutathione to achieve whiter skin. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against using glutathione injections, which they said can cause skin rashes, severe abdominal pains, kidney failure, and other health complications.

What is Glutathione?Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide that contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side-chain. It is anantioxidant, preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals and peroxides.

Thiol groups are reducing agents, existing at a concentration of approximately 5 mM in animal cells. Glutathione reduces disulfide bonds formed within cytoplasmic proteins tocysteines by serving as an electron donor. In the process, glutathione is converted to its oxidized form glutathione disulfide (GSSG), also called L(-)-Glutathione.

Glutathione is found almost exclusively in its reduced form, since the enzyme that reverts it from its oxidized form, glutathione reductase, is constitutively active and inducible uponoxidative stress. In fact, the ratio of reduced glutathione to oxidized glutathione within cells is often used as a measure of cellular toxicity.

Nestle Recalls Maggi Beef, Chicken Noodles due to Salmonella Contamination

Nestle voluntarily recalled two products manufactured that were sold under the Maggi brand, the Maggi Beef and Chicken Noodles. The seasoning products of 2 batches of beef noodles are potentially contaminated by Salmonella.

According to ABS-CBN News report, a lot of customers were shocked when the products were pulled out from grocery stores in some key cities of the country.

According to Nestle Philippines through ABS-CBN news, out of more than 900 boxes of Maggi products that are contaminated with Salmonella, 600 boxes were pulled out. Others were possibly sold already.

Nestle company would still withdraw all products to ensure health safety.

“The safety and the health of our consumers are very, very important. We do not want to take chances,” Edith De Leon said, senior vice president for corporate affairs of Nestle Philippines.

About Salmonella Infection

Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. In most cases, the illness lasts 4 to 7 days and most people recover without treatment. However, in some people's cases the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient becomes dangerously dehydrated and must be taken to a hospital. At the hospital, the patient may receive intravenous fluids to treat the dehydration, and medications may be given to provide symptomatic relief, such as fever reduction. In severe cases, the Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites, and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to develop severe illness. Some people afflicted with salmonellosis later experience reactive arthritis, which can have long-lasting, disabling effects.

Fatima Soriano Not Eligible To Get AJ Perez' Cornea

Fatima Soriano, who is supposed to be the recipient of AJ Perez' cnea, is not capable of transplant according to Mrs. Fely Soriano, Fatima's mother.

Dr. Mae Singson, Fatima's eye doctor confirmed that the 17-year-old singing Marian devotee is not eligible for a corneal transplant since her problem are her retinas and no effective retinal transplants are available yet.

"Ang corneas niya ay normal. Ang problema sa kanya ay ang likod ng mata o ang kurtina ng mata called the retina. 'Yon ang defective sa kanya and it has been defective since pinanganak siya. So changing the cornea, which is sa harapan ng mata ay hindi makakabigay lunas sa kanyang karamdaman. To this day, wala pa tayong effective na retinal transplant," Dr. Singson said.

For her part, Fatima who remains ever faithful to God, wholeheartedly accepted the turn of events and said "if it's God's will, she'll gladly accept it".

Meawhile, Star Magic PR head Thess Gubi said that the Perez family has endorsed the cornea to the eyebank and whoever is compatible [with AJ's cornea] will be the beneficiary.

Representatives from Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines will personally meet and thank AJ's family for donating the late young actor's cornea. Eye Bank will then present a donor certificate to AJ's parent
