A N Z A C DAY 2010

April 25 is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand. Today marks the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand soldiers in Gallipoli in World War I. If you are interested in the history of this event you can read more about it on the above link.

I found this great photo from Google image. It belongs to Aotearoa.co.nz. Red poppies remind me of our visit to the Gallipoli pennisula in Turkey.

Here are my own photos I took while we were there. From top left, New Zealand memorial, Australian memorial, Turkish memorial and the lone pine, a single pine tree planted in front of Australian memorial.

Each year many Australians and New Zealanders who lost family members in the Gallipoli campaign visit Turkey for the annual ANZAC day memorial service. I went to Turkey for the second time in 2008. I highly recommend Turkey to anyone. Turkey is a country full of history, culture and most of all it's full of nice and hospitable people. Turkish people can't do enough to welcome you to their country. My friend Myra and I only stayed in Istanbul this time. It was Myra's first time in Turkey and she said she had the best holiday ever.
