Disney Begins Production On THE AVENGERS
Source: Walt Disney PicturesProduction has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon (“Serenity”) from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) as Thor, Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (“Thor,” “The Hurt Locker”) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are Alright”) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (“Iron Man 2”) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (“Iron Man,” “Thor”) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.
Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, “Marvel’s The Avengers” brings together the mightiest Super Hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of Super Heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of SHIELD, as well as Tom Hiddleston (“Wallander”) and Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd (“Angels & Demons,” “Mamma Mia!”) who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature “Thor.”
“Marvel’s The Avengers” is being produced by Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau. Marvel Studios’ Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.
The creative production team also includes Oscar® nominated director of photography Seamus McGarvey (“Atonement”), production designer James Chinlund (“25th Hour”), Oscar winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), Oscar winning visual effects supervisor Janek Sirrs (“Iron Man 2,” “The Matrix”), visual effects producer Susan Pickett (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”), stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell (“Superman Returns”), and four-time Oscar nominated special effects supervisor Dan Sudick (“Iron Man,” “War of the Worlds”). The editors include Oscar nominated Paul Rubell (“Collateral”) and Jeffrey Ford (“Crazy Heart”).
Marvel Studios most recently produced “Iron Man 2” which was released in theatres on May 7, 2010. The sequel to “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke, took the number one spot its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million. To date the film has earned over $620 million in worldwide box office receipts.
In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies, “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk.” “Iron Man,” in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero’s powerful armor alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008 and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million its opening weekend and grossed over $571 million worldwide. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released “The Incredible Hulk” marking its second number one opener of that summer. The spectacular revival of the iconic green goliath grossed over $250 million in worldwide box office receipts.

New Trailer & Images From RISE OF THE APES Lack Charm Of Original
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Rise of the Planet of the Apes / Facebook
Weta Digital has just released several concept images from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (I liked 'Rise of the Apes' better) via the film's official Facebook page. Though the images are pretty cool I can't help thinking that the film lacks the basic charm of the original film series. Granted, the apes .... well look like 'real' apes, it was the human-like qualities of using actors in ape make-up that allowed audiences back in the 60s and 70s to identify with with them. I wonder how much modern audiences will embrace these apes?
For me ..... I'm just not feeling it right now.
Some of these new concept photos look really cool, apes attacking soldiers in downtown San Francisco, apes scaling the Golden Gate bridge and apes with spears on top of a building. The others kinda look rather comical, apes jumping on cars like they used to do at Lion Country Safari and apes scaring shoppers at the mall.
A mixed bag in my mind.
It, of course, is way too early to pass any kind of judgement on this one. Part of me wants to like it, the other wants to ignore it and watch Taylor, Cornelius and Zira on DVD.
Check these out and formulate your own opinion:

Three New Images From FRIGHT NIGHT
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Walt Disney Studios / Dreamworks
Disney has just released three brand new pics from their remake of "Fright Night" which is due out this summer. Unfortunately none of these feature every ones favorite Doctor, David Tennant as Vincent. I know that will make a few of you, and you know who you are, rather miffed.
Regardless, they do feature Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin which will make others very happy indeed.
Here's the synopsis from the Mouse Factory:
Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend. But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.
Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) is a high school senior who’s on top of the world—that is until Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood.

The 10 Best Low-Budget Films of All Time

Just being a mega-costly movie of today doesn't always equal success at the box office. Many of these behemoths tank, while some movies made on shoestring budgets occasionally become hits and make many times their cost.
"The 10 Best Low-Budget Films of All Time" came across my desk this morning and I found the movies listed interesting.
The site begins with:
Success is relative in Hollywood. Some movies tank at the box office but cost so little to make that the studio still comes out ahead (especially when they use creative accounting), while others have to earn back their huge budgets just to break even. But the films here aren't just low-budget compared with what they earned; they're cheap, period.
To take a look at "The 10 Best Low-Budget Films of All Time," go here.

Bigfoot News - NIGHT CLAWS And The Face Of Sasquatch On Video?
Written By: Ken HulseySources: Avery Guerra /Robert Hood / Ghost Theory
Oh my God ..... wew. I almost made it a month without another new Bigfoot horror movie to talk about.
Really people, can we start making movies about some other monster besides Bigfoot? Really?
Over the past couple of years it seems like everyone with idea of making their own indie monster movie has chosen Bigfoot as their subject matter. There have been so many I can't even keep up with them all anymore.
PLEASE! Give Sasquatch a break and make some other kind of monster movie. I don't know ...... try dinosaurs or a movie about Ogopogo or anything else?
Anyway, yes there is yet another Bigfoot movie on the horizon, this time entitled "Night Claws", which was the brain-child of Polish producer Fabio Saldoni. Saldoni convinced Alabama based film maker David Prior to write and direct his movie and some incentives from government sources actually aided in financing it
Synopsis:
A small town is being terrorized by a killer Bigfoot. One that is blood thirsty, vicious and kills without warning and without discrimination. A scientist by the name of Sarah Evans (Leilani Sarelle) shows up to help the town’s sheriff (Reb Brown) and his deputy girlfriend Roberta (Sherrie Rose) hunt this thing down and put an end to the killings. At the same time, Hunter Crawford (David Campbell) is a thug-like character who along with his two henchmen, is hunting the creature himself, for his own personal gain and he does not care who he has to go through to accomplish this. Enter Charlie Parker (Ted Prior) a tough east coast type who is on a survivalist camping trip, led by the seasoned survivalist Sharon Farmer (Tara Sanford Kleinpeter) at the behest of his young trophy wife (Alissa Koenig) and whom, by no fault of his own, winds up being used as bait for the creature, by Hunter. But there is more at work here than meets the eye. A sinister plot is afoot and at its centre is the vengeful Mister Testi (Frank Stallone). And in the end this plot takes a twist that no one will expect. Now, that doesn't sound like a bad plot for a movie, except for the fact that it kinda sounds like just about every other Bigfoot movie. Okay, to be fair there have been so many of then lately that they are all starting to sound alike, even though they are all unique projects.
Steeping away from it all for a second ..... this one sounds pretty good.
Just like the upcoming Sy Fy Channel film "Snow Beast", which I talked about last month, the makers of "Night Claws" are going old school and not using CGI. Which you know is a bonus in my opinion.
Saldoni explains, "'Night Claws' is a homage for a monster movies from the 80s. I'm very excited about this project. Developing the storyline for it was a blast. I tried to put as much 80s in it as I could and hire some favorite actors of mine. All known from 80s."
Indeed the cast is rather retro. Facing off against Sasquatch will be Reb Brown (Howling II, Ssssnake), Leilani Sarelle (Neon Maniacs, Basic Instinct), Ted Prior (Deadly Prey, Bio Force), Sherrie Rose (Killer Crocodile), David Campbell (Scarecrows), Frank Stallone Jr. (Rocky Balboa, Rambo: First Blood II, Masque of the Red Death), Alissa Koenig (Zombie Wars) and Tara Kleinpeter (The Dead Will Tell).
Now, on to the real deal ...... possibly.
An amateur Bigfoot hunter in eastern Tennessee named Scott may have accidentally caught the face of the monster on video while shooting some location footage last year. After reviewing the video the researcher noticed a face with it's mouth open and teeth showing. Slow motion analysis shows that the mouth actually closes before the camera pans away. Is it Bigfoot sitting rather motionless in the bushes or is it a hoax? I'll leave that up to you to decide.
It's rather interesting footage none the less.

The First Image Of Caesar From RISE OF THE APES
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Obsessed With Film
When 20th Century Fox first announced way back in 2008 that they were planning to reboot the "Planet of the Apes" movie franchise using modern computer generated effects many in the fan community spoke out in objection. How would CGI Apes stand up against the legendary makeup effects created by John Chambers for the original films?
Well today we have our first glimpse of what the main character, Caesar, in "Rise of the Apes" will look like.
Fox revealed many images from their upcoming releases at the Las Vegas’ CinemaCon including the above image, albeit only the nose and eyes, of Andy Serkis as the genetically altered ape who will bring about the fall of mankind.
The apes in "Rise" are being digitally created by Weta Studios with hair effects by Columbia University’s Eitan Grinspun, who created brand-new state of the art animation software for the Disney animated feature "Tangled".
The look of the character has some flair of Chambers work ..... but then again ..... not really.
I guess the jury will be out until we get a good look at the whole design.
Pity, I really loved the look actual actors in ape make-up.

Amy Adams Is The New Lois Lane
Source: Warner BrosWarner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Amy Adams will star in the coveted role of Lois Lane in the new Zack Snyder-directed feature film.
Snyder remarked, "Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
Amy Adams will star opposite Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Amy Adams was recently honored with her third Oscar® nomination in five years, for her performance in the true-life drama "The Fighter," with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. She previously earned Oscar® nominations for her work in the acclaimed films "Doubt" and "Junebug." She has also starred in such diverse hits as "Enchanted," "Julie and Julia," "Charlie Wilson's War," and "Catch Me If You Can." She will next be seen in Walter Salles' "On the Road" with Viggo Mortensen and "The Muppets."
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
The new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The First Look At SNOW BEAST Coming Soon To SyFy
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Marie Wilcox / SunWorld Pictures
Did any of you believe for one second that the Bigfoot movie craze was coming to a halt? Really?
Well I've got great news. There is yet another Yeti movie ready to come charging out of the woods entitled "Snow Beast" which is slated to debut on the SyFy Channel in the near future.
The film stars John Schneider (Them Dukes, them Dukes .... okay Dukes of Hazzard), Danielle Chuchran, Paul D. Hunt, Kari Hawker and Jason London who literally running for their lives from a really pissed off Wampa (watch the trailer .... the monster is the Wampa from Empire Strikes Back) who is on one hell of a blood-thirsty bender.
When I say pissed off ..... I mean PISSED OFF. This Wookie (okay another Star Wars reference ... I'm on a role) is pulling snow bunnies out of cars and throwing guys against trees. Kinda makes the Fouke Monster from "Boggy Creek" look like a pansy.
According to the folks over at SunWorld Pictures what they were aiming for in "Snow Beast" was something a little more retro. According to Marie Wilcox, "Snow Beast is reminiscent of the old-school 'creature features.' Very little CGI effects are contained in the film. Cast members performed their own stunts making for a good time on set as we threw people through the air, dragged them through snow, launched them off snow mobiles, and dropped them into snow caves."
And who doesn't want to see John Schneider get launched right?
I'm at least glad to here that the production went away from CGI. By now you know how I think that medium is being abused ..... I'm looking at you George Lucas ....
Do I think that the Bigfoot movie craze will ever end? Well, if you asked me a year ago I would have said yes, but now .... no way. As long as there are giant unknown apes running around in our woodland areas there will be movie makers willing to make horror movies about them attacking Indians, teenage girls, witches, and TV stars from the 70s.
"Snow Beast" will air on the SyFy Channel this year with a DVD, digital download, and video on demand release coming afterword.

CLASH OF THE TITANS 2 Begins Production
Source: Warner BrosPrincipal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' epic action adventure sequel to "Clash of the Titans," being directed by Jonathan Liebesman ("Battle: Los Angeles"). Returning to star in the film are Sam Worthington ("Avatar") as Perseus, and Academy Award® nominees Ralph Fiennes ("The English Patient," the "Harry Potter" films) as Hades and Liam Neeson ("Schindler's List," "Unknown") as Zeus.
A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.
Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.
Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar RamĂrez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.
Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.
Jonathan Liebesman directs the film from a screenplay by Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson and Steven Knight, story Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau, based on the 2010 hit "Clash of the Titans" and the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross.
The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk ("The Town"), who also produced the previous "Clash of the Titans," and Polly Cohen Johnsen ("Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore"). The executive producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, William Fay, Callum McDougall, Kevin De La Noy and Louis Leterrier.
Joining Worthington, Fiennes and Neeson in the international cast are Danny Huston ("Robin Hood"), reprising his role as Poseidon, god of the sea; Edgar RamĂrez ("The Bourne Ultimatum," TV miniseries "Carlos") as the traitorous god of war, Ares; Bill Nighy ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1") as Hephaestus, whose twisted, lame figure belies his Olympian origins; Toby Kebbell ("Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time") as Agenor, imprisoned thief and son of Poseidon who joins Perseus on his journey to Tartarus; and Rosamund Pike ("Barney's Version") as Andromeda, the princess whose life Perseus once saved, and who now, as a queen, follows Perseus into battle.
The behind-the-scenes team bringing this mythical epic to life includes director of photography Ben Davis ("The Rite," "Kick Ass"); production designer Charles Wood ("The Italian Job," "The A-Team"); Academy Award®-winning editor Martin Walsh ("Chicago," "V for Vendetta"); and costume designer Jany Temime (the "Harry Potter" films). "Clash of the Titans 2" also reunites several talents from the previous film, including Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis ("The Dark Knight,"); Oscar®-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O'Sullivan ("The Dark Knight," "Saving Private Ryan"); and Academy Award®-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould ("Gladiator"). Also on board are Oscar®-nominated makeup designer Paul Engelen ("Frankenstein," "Robin Hood") and hair designer Kevin Alexander ("Robin Hood," "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian").
"Clash of the Titans 2" will be filming in studios outside London and will later shoot on location in Surrey, South Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife. The film is currently scheduled for release in March 2012.

Costner will star alongside Diane Lane, who plays his wife, Martha, and the film's star, Henry Cavill, who will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Ryan Gosling To Play Logan 5
Written By: Ken HulseySource: Variety
Artwork By: Lauras Muse
Variety is reporting that the Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Fracture) is in negotiations to step into the shoes of fellow British thespian Michael York to play Logan 5 in the upcoming "Logan's Run" remake.
Reportedly Warner Bros is also in negotiations with Nicolas Winding Refn to direct the film which has been various stages of development for over a decade. Refn would join a long list of film makers that have been attached to "Logan's Run" throughout the years, a list that also includes Carl Erik Rinsch and Bryan Singer.
Producers Joel Silver, Andrew Rona, Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster have already been in place for some time.
Last year Silver revealed that "Logan's Run" was going to be produced in 3D, which should come as no surprise to anyone due to the fact that just about all upcoming fantasy film projects are slated to be produced in that format.
Logan's Run Plot:
In the distant future the survivors of the apocalypse live in a giant domed city where their every need is taken care of by overlord computer. People live in world of pleasure, but there is one catch. At the age of 30 (21 in Johnson and Nolan's novel) all citizens are required to report for a ritualistic murder ceremony known as "Carousel". The populace has been fooled into believing that this ceremony leads to reincarnation and a new life though its real purpose is population control. To insure that citizens don't "chicken out" on their way to Carousel there is a police force in place known as "Sandman" who terminate those who attempt to run.
Logan 5 is one of the elite Sandmen. During one of his routine terminations he retrieves an anch, a symbol for a mythical place called Sanctuary where runners can find refuge, off the body of a would be runner. Upon placing the item into the computers scanner he is instructed to undergo a process to alter his "Life Clock", a symbol of a persons age embedded in the palm, to the blinking red of a person on last day so that he may pose as a runner to infiltrate Sanctuary. During the process he learns that 1036 runners had managed to escape the city and that Carousel is a ruse.
Along with his companion, Jessica 6, Logan attempts to flee the domed city in search of Sanctuary.
Let's see if Logan really gets running this time.
