MIXED MEDIA PROJECT COMPLETED

I have finally made something out of the Mixed Media piece I made in a workshop at my friend Lynette's the other day. I made it into a journal cover. Because the piece and size is unique, I have to make a journal to fit to it as well.

This is the front of the cover of the journal. After I went over it with the free motion machine embroidery I added some hand embroidery and beads over the top. I also cut it in some areas to expose the under layers. I made the cord to use as tie to keep bits and pieces inside the journal from falling out.

This is the back view of the journal. I did not put as much embelishment on the back because I thought it would not stand the wear and tear after using it for a long time.

Mixed Media Workshop

Last Sunday I had a mixed media workshop at my friend Lynette's place. It was part of our Sewing Basket of Vic (SBOV) session. Lynette showed Lynda and I free motion machine embroidery. We worked on fabrics and paper collages. It was a lot of fun and I used some of the hand-dyed fabrics and threads I did the other week. They are perfect mediums for mixed media projects.

This is the one I made out of fibre and fabrics. I stacked about 4 layers of different fabrics plus the pink plastic netting I had found lying on the street that morning. Then I did the free motion machine embroidery on the whole piece just like writing with the sewing machine. I changed threads a couple of times to get different effects. It is still a work in progress.

This picture shows the paper collage and the crazy quilt block Lynda made for me for our suitcase challenge and my purple collage. I will make a journal cover out of the purple piece and use the paper collage for a Coptic stitch book cover.

Lynda with her work in progress. I am sure she would have finished it by now. I will take some photos of her project the next time I see her.

This is Lynette with her paper collage that she was working on. She was drawing with a gel pen. We had a fabulous day that day. Lynette fed us with homemade soup and homemade bread that her husband kindly made for us. Thanks Lynette for your expert tuition and letting us play at your house.

Enjoy

Watermelon Collage

Wednesday is our book binding workshop during lunch time at my work. We called ourselves BBBB (Bold Beautiful Book Binding). Today I showed them the process of how to make paper collage. I made this one last night as a diary cover. This is my second paper collage and I started to love it. I like tearing papers into small bits. It's a something you can do on the plane using the in flight magazines without scissors. I had a lot of fun doing that on my travel in October. I used up 3 copies of air Egypt in flight magazines on that trip.

The finished diary collage. I opened the cover out flat and collaged it in one piece so when you fold the diary in half you can see the watermelon on both sides.

Cup Cake Collage

It was our BBBB workshop today and I talked about paper collage that we would do in the next couple of weeks. I just remembered made one for Jane's birthday. I am posting the photos here to share with you. This one has black background.

The same card with white background. I will post the instruction on how to make this in my next blog. Feel free to leave me a comment.
