Hmm mixed feelings about this.
I want them to be successful, but I also want:
- DVD extras
- HD resolution
- burnable to disc
- rental system
I hope success won't lull them into thinking the current restrictions are ok. :(
Oh well, I can stick with DVDs.
You want HD quality downloads but you can "stick" with DVD's? Do you understand how much information there is for a HD movie? Try one of the new disc formats, but you want to be able to download it? Crazy!
I agree on the rental system however, I wouldn't mind renting but it would have to be cheaper of course.

Allendale is not faster than Merom. Benchmarks show it is slower.Links please. Both low end Merom and Allendale have the same amount of cache. Still, Allendale clocks higher and faster.

So I'm guessing the chances of them putting AMD graphics in one of these models is practically zero?

From what I've heard, the quality is pretty close to DVD. Have you compared the two? What is your complaint about quality?
First of all I am not complaining. So don't jump to conclusions.
I am stating the obvious. DVD frame size is better than 640x480 frame size.
I acknowledge that the itunes movies are probably good. I just saying that I rather have the DVD frame size and quality. Plus I can have a physical DVD for back up with bonus, extras etc. It's just a preference.

64-bit likes rosetta it seems. Good speed gain for CS2. 27/36 seconds quicker aint bad. Im guessing the larger L2 cache has some play in that too.
I love that 24". Its a BEAST!

Just picked up a 3.4GHz i7 with 8GB of RAM from the Apple Store. I took it home and installed a 256GB SSD to replace the hard drive inside. Installing the OS now. I'll post Geekbench numbers soon.

This is fairly remarkable, considering that the really only viable place to watch these movies is on an iPod! Yes, you can watch it on your iMac, or on your television hooked to a Mac Mini.

All at WWDC?
With the bumped up date for Merom, it is all possible. Since core duo is going to see a price drop the mac mini may get speed bumped, the MB may see a price drop or speed bump, merom MBPs *may* be released, iMac may get updated, and the MPs will come uot.

Don't get me wrong, I would welcome a new enclosure but I think that allowing the prospect of one to be the determining factor in the purchase of a machine is ridiculous. As much as I would LOVE to have a gunmetal colored mbp, if it came out tomorrow I wouldn't be upset that I have a silver one because I truly do love my machine. Apple will always continue to innovate and release new products, and IMO now that they're using intel chips the rate of obsolescence will increase (in terms of harware and performance more than appearance).
More than likely a new case would mean a snazzy magnetic latch, a user replaceable HDD, and possibly an end to the MBP heat issue. When a 120 gb ipod comes out, is that the HDD you want in your computer? Besides, this is Apple we're talking about--do you really think any design change is going to be a demotion? Has any Apple redesign sucked? Ever?

Wow, it seems the majority of posters here are immediately questioning the security guard for shooting a bunch of criminals! I guess he should have been more polite, and given the criminals the chance to shoot him first! Or to run off and try to rob an honest business another time!
America used to be a country of strong, self-reliant people that would have absolutely no problem with taking down violent criminals *asap*. They would have no tolerance for thuggery, and the result is that there would be far less of it! Now America is filled with a bunch of lambs, who've become so "civilized" that they've lost the instincts needed to confront bullies. Instead, they round themselves up in the pens of a police state, where they leave the unpleasant business of personal defense to "professionals" (the police). And then they whine when the professionals don't do enough to protect them, or start to prey upon them because they *are* so weak.
This is what happens when earlier generations make a country strong, but are replaced by their children who merely inherit a strong country, with no idea how to maintain it.
There's only one appropriate course of action with thieves and criminals like the ones described in the article: give them one chance to surrender (not to quit and go home, but surrender), and if they don't take it, then shoot them. Not only is that justice, but it also discourages other criminals far more than the potential for jail terms ever could.

Funny, I just read in USA Today I beleve it was, that law enforcement officers actually prefer people use the apps...saying that even if the app alerts the driver and they change their driving habits for a short time, say, slowing them down from speeding for a few miles...it's a good thing, and they encourage it.
Besides...who the h*ll is the government to tell Apple what they can and cannot do with their business? Regulations are one thing...such as safety regs and such...those are needed, but Christ...this is over the line.

In any case, it's over and the accessories market will have another player.
Apple can add the $100 mn expense to their stock options mess, which should produce some very ugly financial statements. However, never having to worry about Creative again is a good thing.
It's not cheap but it's a sound investment in keeping their iPod business solid. If Creative go after iRiver, Archos, or anyone else, it will also help Apple indirectly.

Unless I'm missing it in the thread, I didn't see anything on this particular question. Does anyone know if this database on the iPhone is accessible by apps? ie. can you download some app that then scans the database and uploads your information elsewhere behind the scenes?

I am in favor of Greenpeace's "Green My Apple" campaign. For all of Steve Jobs' zen-attitude, vegetarianism, often-proclaimed "do the right thing" stance, and Apple's financial liquidity, there's no reason why other manufacturers can make the change and Apple isn't willing to move in the right direction with their products.
First and fore most, no other company is making an 100% recyclable product. The thing that greenpeace are holding up as the right thing is that Dell and others agree to bring the product back and keep it out of a land fill as a PC not to say it does not end up there anyway. This is only true if a consumer wishes to send it back. But if they put it in the trash it still goes to the land fill and contaminated the ground.
If the consumer sends it back, all Dell and others do is sales or turns it over to a recycular who takes out what can be recycled and sells it for what they can and those items which can not be recycle are places in US land fills or burned to ashes and put in a land fill with all the toxic chemical.
Like I said before, no one has figures out how to make products which we all are willing to buy without toxic chemicals at price you all are willing to pay.

They might as well add a Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro too.
Best post of the day.
My gues is that all these whiners would not even notice if you snuck in at night and swapped out ther procesor for a C2D chip. They'd just wake up the next moring fire up the computer and never even notice.
It's like those audiophiles who argue endlessly about if gold plated or silver plated speaker wire sounds better.
Worst & dumbest post of the day.
