Mini Basket Quilt

I brought back a book from Japan and it was one of those books that the cover tells all. I didn't even know what the name of the book was (I do now) or who the author was, but I liked what I saw on both the cover and contents. I saw a quilt in the book that I really liked  and decided to make it.

I started looking for taupe kind of fabric to make this quilt. I had a passion for baskets long before I started basket weaving. Basket patterns makes great quilts too. This is a mini quilt 26 x 26" square all hand appliqué and hand pieced. I will also hand quilt it too. Will show it to you again once I have completed the hand quilting.
I made it slightly differently from the original. The original quilt has sashing around all the blocks, but I didn't do that on mine; only a small inner border to separate the pieced border to the block.
A closed up of my favorite basket. It reminds me of an egg basket I made. This is really a fun quilt to make. The smallish pieces challenged me in appliqué as long as they were not too small.

Here is the book Start Quilting with Triangle & Square by Yoko Saito. It took me awhile to find the name of the book and the author. Yoko Saito has published many wonderful quilt on hand appliqué and quilting. She is a terrific quilter both in Japan and Internationally. See the bags of scraps I brought back from Japan.
A page on basket quilting. I will hand quilt mine the same way as Yoko did her quilt. Its simple lines go well with the style of the quilt.
The patterns are all in Japanese, but I only need the measurements. I remembered learning how to quilt from Japanese quilting magazines which was quite easy.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer days in the US and everyone here in Australia is also enjoying quilting weather in the winter. The only thing I'm struggling with is not having long summer days to take photos after work.
