Last month, the Walt Disney Co. eased up its famously strict dress code — called the Disney Look — by allowing women to forgo pantyhose while wearing skirts. They also can sport sleeveless tops with straps that are at least three-inches wide.
Most of the employees affected by the new dress code work behind the scenes, but those using costumes with hosiery will be required to wear them in the parks.Disney has enforced the Disney Look, which has its own manual, since 1957. Disney banned mustaches for employees until 2000. Cornrows on males were allowed three years later.
The most recent update came May 28. Other changes include:
- Women can wear capri pants.
- Women’s shoes can be open toed and have slingbacks. Before, shoes could only be one or the other.
- Men can wear untucked, camp-style shirts, like the Tommy Bahamas brand.
