Happy Quilt & XOXO

Well, Happy Quilt is getting happier by the 'night'. Yes by the night instead of by the day because I have only been making the new block at night. The Happy Quilt started from the the waste not want not block I made to send to Tonya for her book, but she had enough blocks and suggested I keep it for my own quilt. The block was XOXO so I decided to make a Happy Quilt for myself. Since then I have been making a word each night.

And here is the word Happy in green and orange. Orange is the new colour I introduced into my quilt and myself since the trip to India last year. In India you can find a lot Saris in orange. Before that I thought orange did not suit me, but after seeing a lot of Indian ladies wearing orange I started to love it too.

These are my words so far. I started of with XOXO block on the top left hand corner. I am only going to use the happy and positive words in this quilt. With the situation in the world right now I only want to see positive and happy words in my quilt. I have written out more than fifty happy words so far.

It was a lot of fun and easy to do after I made the first XOXO word. I then made a second block, this time for my DD as a dressing table mat. For this block I went over with stitches using black and red embroidery thread. I used felted wool for the backing. I found that felted wool stitches like butter.

Here is a closeup of the stitches. I turned the backing over to act as binding, and then stitched it down with cross stitches.

This is what it looks like on the reverse. It does not look as neat as I would like it to, but I did not think that I was going to show the back to anyone. Oh well, it is too late now...!
