Mixed Media Workshop

Last Sunday I had a mixed media workshop at my friend Lynette's place. It was part of our Sewing Basket of Vic (SBOV) session. Lynette showed Lynda and I free motion machine embroidery. We worked on fabrics and paper collages. It was a lot of fun and I used some of the hand-dyed fabrics and threads I did the other week. They are perfect mediums for mixed media projects.

This is the one I made out of fibre and fabrics. I stacked about 4 layers of different fabrics plus the pink plastic netting I had found lying on the street that morning. Then I did the free motion machine embroidery on the whole piece just like writing with the sewing machine. I changed threads a couple of times to get different effects. It is still a work in progress. 

This picture shows the paper collage and the crazy quilt block Lynda made for me for our suitcase challenge and my purple collage. I will make a journal cover out of the purple piece and use the paper collage for a Coptic stitch book cover.

This is Lynette with her paper collage that she was working on. She was drawing with a gel pen. We had a fabulous day that day. Lynette fed us with homemade soup and homemade bread that her husband kindly made for us. Thanks Lynette for your expert tuition and letting us play at your house.

Take time to think deeply, listen to your intuition, and with patience, the reason why you are here, and what you uniquely have to give, will occur to you. Then you can live your life 'on purpose'.

Help Yourself
Unfortunately these two words tend to describe the generally selfish and materialistic culture in which most of us live. They result not in self-help but in dependency. Our education and our role models do not encourage us to help ourselves to grow, change and expand our capacities as human beings. Real self-help means recognising that no one else is responsible for our thoughts and feelings, and that we are only ever victims because we choose to be. Our destiny is always and only in our own hands - despite all apparent evidence which may indicate otherwise. Learning to help ourselves is also a prerequisite to extending a hand of assistance to others. We all need a leg up from time to time, but once there, we are always on our own.

ANZAC DAY: LEST WE FORGET

Today is ANZAC day in Australia and New Zealand. Today marks the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed in Gallipoli in World War I. I do not know the whole history of the event, but I know that both Australia and New Zealand lost a lot of lives in this campaign. If you are interested to learn more please visit the above link of the Australian Government official website. I would like to share some photos of our visit to Gallipoli in 2001.

This is the Australian Memorial. It is situated right on the Aegean Sea. It was a memorable day for us seeing all the names of those who lost their lives there.

There was only a single tree at the site and it was a pine tree. Hence the area is called Lonepine.

I still have a vivid memory of that day. It was a nice sunny afternoon. There were not any other visitors at that time. My family and I spent our time reading the name plaques. We were not looking for any name in paticular as we did not have any relatives that took part in the Gallipoli campaign. 

That was me feeling very somber after reading some of the sad messages left there by the relatives. 

DS was studying World War history at the time he was interested to discovere that the trenches were still visible for everyone to see. 

This is the Turkish Memorial. This is written on the side of this memorial:

 

"THOSE HEROES THAT SHED THEIR BLOOD AND LOST THEIR LIVES... YOU ARE NOW LYING IN THE SOIL OF A FRIENDLY COUNTRY. THEREFORE REST IN PEACE. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE JOHNNIES AND THE MEHMETS TO US WHERE THEY LIE SIDE BY SIDE HERE IN THIS COUNTRY OF OURS...

YOU, THE MOTHERS, WHO SENT THEIR SONS FROM FAR AWAY COUNTRIES, WIPE AWAY YOUR TEARS; YOUR SONS ARE NOW LYING IN OUR BOSOM AND ARE IN PEACE. AFTER HAVING LOST THEIR LIVES ON THIS LAND THEY HAVE BECOME OUR SONS AS WELL."

I was in tears reading the message left by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. I also found that there were many Turkish visitors to the memorial as well.

What started as an alternative to Super Bowl half time has turned into a league of their own.

Yes, the Lingerie Bowl, a very popular pay per view alternative to the Super Bowl half time show, has developed into the Lingerie Football League (LFL).

In Santa Monica, beautiful athletic women try out for a spot on the Los Angeles Temptations 2009-10 lineup.

The league has expanded to 10 teams in its 2009 season: Atlanta Steam, Chicago Bliss, Miami Caliente, New England Euphoria, Tampa Breeze, Dallas Desire, Denver Dream, Los Angeles Temptation, San Diego Seduction and Seattle Mist.

Tight End Formation

The season will kick off on September 4, 2009 at Sears Centre in Chicago, Illinois and culminate with the annual Lingerie Bowl on February 7, 2010 at Bank Atlantic Center in Miami, Florida, USA.

The Lingerie Football League will play one televised game in one of the league cities each Friday nite during the season, with each team playing 4 games during the season.

Yes, it looks like Friday night will offer up some sexy lingerie and true Fantasy Football.

The Lingerie Football League teams will consist of some of the most athletic and beautiful women playing 7 on 7 tackle football in top arenas and stadiums.

The players will be wearing fashionable lingerie sports bras and panties, along with shoulder pads and helmets for protection.

The first Lingerie Bowl was played during halftime of Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 and featured Team Dream vs. Team Euphoria.

Team Dream won the first game, 6-0.

Since it's debut in 2004, the Lingerie Bowl has featured such beauties as former WWE diva Christy Hemme, Playboy Playmate Katie Lohmann and pop star Willa Ford.
