Recipe of the week

Mousaka is a traditional Greek dish. I made it one day last week and had the leftovers for lunch the next day. I shared it with my friend and she asked for the recipe so, here it is:

MOUSAKA:
Meat Sauce
500 grams beef mince
3 tablespoons olive old
1 onion, chopped
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tomato, chopped
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 cup grated tasty cheese
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1/2 white wine
1 cup water
3 eggplants, 3 zucchini
Salt, pepper and nutmeg
White Sauce
2 cups milk
1/2 cup flour
4 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
Salt, white pepper and grated nutmeg

Brown onions in olive oil. Add beef mince, mixing constantly until mixture becomes crumbly. Add chopped tomatoes and tomato sauce, wine, water, salt pepper, parsley and nutmeg. Cover and cook for 45 minutes over low heat.
In the meantime, cut the eggplants 2 cms thick, salted to remove excess moisture for 30 minutes. Cut zucchini in the same way. I grilled the vegetable until brown on both sides.
Prepare a thick white sauce with milk, flour, butter, salt, pepper and grated nutmeg. Add eggs.
Arrange eggplants in a shallow pan with a few bread crumbs. Add vegetables, meat sauce and white sauce in layers. Top with white sauce and grated tasty cheese. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake in the over at 170'C for 45 minutes or until top is golden.
It is also nice to add some cooked slice potatoes as well.

Please leave me a comment after you try this. Enjoy......!

New Start..

Next Monday will be the first day I go to work. Nervous and anxious are the feelings I am having now to wait for Monday to come. It's not that I have not work in firm before, it's just that, this time, I have to go to the office by myself. Last time having my industrial training, I went to a firm with my friends. I got the accompany of my friends. So, it won't be a big deal for me to work in a firm. But, this time is different. I have to go alone. A bit worry.. Just hope that I can cope with it and do a good job. Gambateh..

This afternoon I went to hair salon to have a hair cut. Actually no difference in my hair style. Just have it shorter and less thicker. This is to make sure that I have a good appearance for my first job and also my convo.. Haha.. Dunno why I always have a hair cut before my convo.

A hair cut represent a new start for me. Just hope that I have a good time in my work and enjoy it.

Btw, to my friends (Soke Yee and Diana), hope you guys enjoy your work life and plus oil.. See u guys in the convo..

Plus oil.. ^^v

Heartfelt Quilt

I gave the Heartfelt quilt to my colleague Tony yesterday afternoon. My friend Jane was with me for support and took the photo. He was very touched by it all. The quilt stirred a bit of commotion when I showed it off. Two colleagues are now wanting to make one as well.

The tragedy of Black Saturday touched everyone's heart. The loss of homes and lives was more than anybody could imagine. Again, being a quilter I set off to make a quilt. I wanted to do this by myself so that I feel I am contributing it directly to someone I know who lost his home.

I started this quilt on the evening of 9 Feb. and completed it last Sunday. I machine quilted it. The quilt is 62"x86" in size and it is nice and warm. I am so pleased at how it turned out. A real comfy quilt. I will give it away tomorrow.

Details of striplings on the border. I am very pleased of the quilting because I am a hand quilter and only had a couple of lessons on machine quilting, I feel very proud of my effort.

Quilting action on Sunday afternoon.

One for All and All for One

Back on September 11, 2001 everyone know what happened that day? I was living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates at that time. The tragedy of the event was unbearable and unbelievable. It affected me more than I thought it would. I was searching the Internet late one night and came across a call for exhibits from Karey Brensenhan, the president of Quilts International. The call was to submit quilts to be exhibited at Quilts International, Houston in November 2001. I set off to work and got the quilt finished in time for the exhibition. The process of making the quilt had helped heal the sadness I had at the time.

The exhibition was called 'America from the Heart'. The same exhibition travelled to Barcelona, Spain for the Europe Quilt Expo 2002, and I was there to see my quilt exhibited among the other 99 quilts of the same subject.

All the quilts were then published in a book called America from the heart, by Karey Bresenhan. I called my quilt 'One for All and All for One'. All the proceeds from the sale of the book was given to an education fund for children who lost their parents because of 9/11.

Why did I tell you this? Well, my latest quilt, 'Heartfelt' I've made for one of the survivors of Black Saturday on 7 Feb. 2009 - quilts do heal believe me...!

Blogger on the prowl

It is O week at my work this week. Trying to get through zillions of new students is fun, but it takes a while. Among them is my dear friend Jane happily strolling ahead. There were lot of freebies up for grabs; unfortunately we didn't look the part so, we didn't get anything!

Sitting out in the garden for lunch, it was lovely and cool today. Mel and Jane were posing for my blog. They know my obsession about the blog and they are happy for me to post their photos on here. Notice the sculpture behind them?

And this is where I spend every morning tea with my colleagues and friends, and where we exchange information on all topics. We could call it Coffee therapy.

Opshop crawling

I have my very own Salvos in the neighborhood and whenever I have a chance I drop by for a visit. When I pass the toy ornaments I can't help myself rearranging them into group and snapping them with my camera. This one is for my daughter, Hello Kitty....1

And here is the Bear family. I hope someone will take them home one day soon.

Confused..

These few days, I have been thinking if I had made a good choice. Choosing to work in a medium firm rather than big firm. If I told the others I am going to work in ACC, some of them will ask why not EY. I don't know what to answer them. I had send both the company my resume. But, only ACC called me and I accept it. As I think I can learn more in this company as I can learn both audit and tax. In my opinion, I can learn more in small firm.

The thing that worried me the most is my pay is not enough to cover all my expenses that I need to pay. Especially my loans that I took during my studies. Loans, expenses at home and so on.. Eveything is about money. I'm not sure I can arrange and plan the use of the money wisely. Haii..

What can I say now. 'Fan'..

Thought For Days

Create A Peaceful Thought
When your open your eyes in the morning, sit for a moment and appreciate the gift of a new day, create a peaceful thought and enjoy some moments of silence throughout the whole day.

Contentment
Contentment is a great virtue, though it may not attract one's attention at first. Those who are truly content are usually quiet about it. It is a pleasure to be in their company, because they are full, peaceful, and generous.

Humility
Humility grows a little more each time I step away from my own feelings and opinions and genuinely listen to the experience of another human being. Humility is dedication to the extent that no acknowledgement is sought for the self. Only when I have learned to value others no more or less than I value myself can I be said to be truly humble.

Positive Thoughts
Positive thoughts are like good software that helps us to perform to the best of our abilities.

Well-Wisher
The method to remove worry is to become a well-wisher for all and thus stop using the mind and wasting your time thinking about things in the wrong way.

Absent from the big tent this year, but certainly not absent from the world of fashion was Betsey Johnson.

The designer decided to forgo the expense of a big show under the tents in favor of a showing at her showroom.

Betsey Johnson fall 2009 fashion collection is really cooking and she certainly knows how to capture all the colors of the rainbow in a dazzling display of fall colors.

We especially love her usage of brilliant colorful leggings to go with each outfit.

We always adore her layered look - whether it's a sexy prom dress or a equally sexy and hot cocktail dress.

Betsey Johnson flair for layering is simply astonishing.

We especially loved the black and red layered petticoat in lacey chiffons, black corset midriff with four bow ties and black and glittery top.

Another favorite of ours was a black petticoat skirt with green leaf and red flower patterns.

A bright yellow waist cincher added to this colorful outfit toped by a black fringe top.

Lavender leggings and shoes with spots and multi ties created a truly unique and colorful ensemble.

Knits were also featured in the collection.

We truly love the blue with pink pattern kit mini dress with big blue round buttons and pink fringe on the skirt.

Again, the fishnet pantyhose added to the glamour of the outfit.

A pink jump suit with oversized belt with multi studs and shag carpet coat, also caught our eye.

Especially when paired with zebra striped leggings.

One leg was in black and white stripes while the other leg had a rainbow of stripe colors - black and white, blue and black, red and black, yellow and black, and green and black.

Definitely, the leggings made this outfit memorable.

Color is certainly one of Bestey Johnson strong points.

Another of Bestey Johnson creations features a simple off the shoulders mini dress in multi color stripes.

Black at the top, pink, black belt with double black buckle and colorful long sleeves in multi colors, paired with beautiful lavender pantyhose.

Betsey Johnson's Food for Thought Fashion Show

To show off her fall 2009 collection, Betsey Johnson didn't use the typical runway.

Instead, the designer threw a house party to celebrate a 25-piece collection inspired by food.

Watch Betsey Johnson very colorful Fall 2009 Fashion Collection in today's video clip.

Tote Bag - Yellow butterfly

I finally finished this yellow butterfly bag. The butterfly pattern came from Leannes House. It took me longer to complete this bag than I had planned because of the hand quilting I did. It looks great, but when I showed it to my colleagues at work they didn't even know I hand quilted it...! I am very happy how it turned out though. The fabric for the bag was a pillow case I got from the Salvos sometime ago. I love to give new life to old objects I get from the opshops. These are great for birthday gifts..... Hope you noticed that there are butterflies on both sides of the bag!

That fashion icon and every girls' favorite doll for several generations is celebrating her 50th birthday in March.

So, what could be timelier than to create a fashion show especially for her.

Of course, if you haven't guested by now, that doll is a real Barbie doll, in fact, she is Barbie.

Barbie started out as a teenage fashion model doll in 1959 and cost $3.00, in 1960 she became a Fashion Editor.

Today's 2009 Barbie doll careers include SeaWorld Trainer, Nurse Doctor, Preschool Teacher, PetVet, Gymnastic Coach and Fashion Magazine Intern, so you can see just how much Barbie's career choices have changes over the past 50 years.

Over 50 world renowned fashion designers, such as Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfilger, Vera Wang created real live fashion designs for the Barbie fashion show.

The show opened with a model dressed exactly like the first Barbie.

The model wore a black and white zebra-print, sequined swimsuit, designed by Rachel Roy.

Her long blonde hair combed into an oversized ponytail.

This very retro swimsuit design still looks fabulous today.

Another very sexy and retro look, was a two piece black with white polka dots swimsuit designed by Norma Kamali.

Those knees high stocking and arm stockings with black ends really adds to this swimsuit.

Those red open toe shoes also got our attention.

In fact, Christian Louboutin designed the sexy shoes, mostly in pink, to go with the Barbie designer outfits.

Short, shorts are hot and this pink jump suite with short shorts designed by Jeremy Scott is really hot.

What could be hotter than a little pink dress?

This little pink dress designed by Juicy Couture utilizes lacey pink material with golden butterfly design, the petticoat adds flare to the outfit as does those little white bobby stocks and hot shoes from Christian Louboutin.

Another intriguing outfit is this pink, off the shoulders mini dress with square patterns and circle designs by Kai Kuhne.

The long blue gloves give the outfit a futuristic flare to this outfit.

Charity begins at home!!!

"I Just want to update on the fun raising we did at my work last Tuesday. A lot of staff brought in their bake goods and we raised a total of $1800 including the donations from the Den (our local coffee shop). All process went to the Red Cross"

I think it is time for another recipe, but this time is not just a recipe. Tomorrow at my work there is going to be fun raising sell of bake goods to raise money for the bush fires sufferers. We were asked to bring some bake goods to sell. I have baked two batches of chocolate chips biscuits. One batch with dark chocolate and one with white chocolate and so I thought I would share the recipe with you. I must tell you that, I already made $10 tonight from the sell of the biscuits to my own family. Isn't that what they says, charity begins at home....!

CHOCOLATE CHIP BISCUIT
125g butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups self-raising flour
125g chocolate ships
60g walnut pieces
Cream together butter, sugars and vanilla. Add light beaten egg gradually, beating well after each addition. Mix in sifted flour. Add chocolate chips and chopped walnuts, mix well. Shape teaspoonfuls of mixture into small balls, place on lightly greased oven trays, allow room for spreading. Bake in moderate oven 10-12 minutes.

Enjoy and please leave me a comment how they turn out for you?

Thought For Days

Trust yourself
You must begin to trust yourself. If you do not then you will forever be looking to others to prove your own merit to you and you will never be satisfied. You will always be asking others what to do, and at the same time resenting those from whom you seek such aid.

Sweetness
Sweetness looks for the good in things, for at its heart is the conviction that good is somewhere there in everything.

Treasures
All human beings have a place inside which is filled with treasures; be still and you will find it.

Love‏
If I learn to create love in my heart and silently share it with everyone I meet, love will grace every corner of my life.

Harmony
All things have their time. All things have their answers. All things have their right to be. Accepting this reality, all things come into harmony.

We saw Doug de Vries playing Brazilian Guitar in the main Elizabeth Murdoch Hall. Elisabeth Murdoch Hall's unique design is intimate, acoustically superb and features world class technical facilities. It is ideally suited to the performance of ensemble music and spoken word and features a gently raked Stalls and Circle and unique, split level side balconies, giving excellent sightlines and outstanding acoustics from all seats. I love the interior of the main hall. It all made of wood panels and has swirling designs effect all over the surface. The ceilings lights were also very interesting in the shape of the propellers (that what I think?). Drop by to the MRC the next time you are in Melbourne.

Cultural Weekend

Have you noticed a picnic rug? It was the best picnic rug in the whole of Sydney Myer Music Bowl....! Quilters would find excuses to make quilt for any occasions and I am one of those quilter!!! I like the idea of using a quilt for a picnic rug and this Amis style quilt was easy and quick to make. It was my first attemped at machine quilting.

It was the 50th. Anniversary of Sydney Myer Music Bowl. We had a lovely afternoon for it. We took picnic with us. We found a spot on the side where we could still hear the music and saw the screen above the stage. I just love the photo above, it was totally natural the way people just put their rugs down and sit or half sit or even lay down. Because we couldn't see the performance, I spent most of time people watching.
