a combo, phone, PDA, Mp3 player and I am sold. Unlike the iTV I would see a lot of value on this.

I use my 2010 27" iMac as a monitor for a PC gaming rig that utilizes the mini-display port and I must say that this will be the last iMac I own until they change this. This was one of main selling points for me since I could still use a pc and not have to suffer with the iMac's poor gaming performance.
No matter how you slice it, the integrated video card with the current iMacs CANNOT drive the resolution these displays use.
The only option is build a high end PC that can push that kinda resolution at decent framerates.
Now that they have removed the option and restricted it to TB only display ports, we are now forced to "upgrade" to a new mac tho it still cant hold a candle to whats available to system builders today.
I made the switch to Mac years and years ago but I think it's finally run it's course. When this thing takes a **** and they offer me a new one through my Apple Care, I'll sell it and buy a real display an perhaps mac mini.
Apple has fallen so far behind the desktop computing business and its clear they want to funnel their remaining customers through this purchase path.
I'm confused. What has changed about the target display mode? Isn't it still there?

Whether IMac takes Merom or Conroe, it's still 64 bit. Does anybody have any feeling whether the IMac will be able to handle > 2GB of memory (assuming 2GB dimms are for sale)? That would make me very happy :)

So, with TB moving across the whole line, how long before we can buy a (Data | Display) splitter for TB so that people using the new systems can use external displays and the data connection at the same time without the PITA of daily chaining? Hope before I buy a new system :/
Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.

Well, if I hadn't downloaded the Lost episodes from the iTMS, I might have agreed with you. The fact is, they look better than I expected.
I've found that videos downloaded from the iTMS generally look better on my TV than DVDs I've ripped and encoded for the iPod myself. I've tried the maximum iPod-compatible quality settings, and still cant get as sharp a picture as the Lost episodes I have. Except during really dark scenes, it's easy to forget I'm not just watching regular TV. It's obviously not nearly as good as a DVD, but it's not YouTube either. That being said, I have standard definition TV... no HD here. YMMV
I still think Apple will have to up the video quality if they want people to start buying downloads instead of actual discs.

i knew i should have held on a year longer :( i guess its ebay time in 6 months for my quad 17..
Why? If you like your MacBook Pro, why the regrets if it is performing the tasks you want it to perform? I just purchased a quad 15" and I couldn't be happier. No need to upgrade or sell every time there is a refresh because technology moves so fast. Just be glad you have an awesome machine that will be awesome for years to come!

The MacBook Pro design hasn't changed since 2008. I'd bet money that the next time they do a redesign an optical drive won't be present.

In any event, unless it's HD (720p is fine) I'm not interested. For that matter, when they give me Lost in HD (and a good way to get it to my TV) I'll check out the TV shows.
I would love that too, but im not convinced its feasible. 720p movie trailer downloads account roughly to 50mb for every minute. therefore, a 120min feature film would equal to 6GB. thats a lot of bandwidth, and the shoddy superdrives in current macbooks are only single-layer (grunf!).
But if its real, and they manage it for ~$14, man, ill start (re)building my movie collection! dont really care for 1080p (actually, i do, but then 12gb per film is just too much for me to bother downloading)
i guess if thats the case, 160gb 2.5" sata hds will be the absolute bare minimum, plus a stationary external hd with some 500+gb to cope with the new digital library AND time machine

You can see the multiple monitor setups for those cards in the usual hardware sites.That is still one display per output though.

Actually, I'm starting to question the description of this rendition. It reads:

IMO, having the click-wheel slide down with a keypad underneath is a less favorable design compared to (for example), Chocolate by LG, where the body of the phone slides up revealing a second layer of the phone with the keypad.

At this price point and with these features - they may push even more customers away from the mac pro and towards the iMac. Even for some pretty heavy lifting, it's going to be a beast of a machine.
I can say from experience that the i7 SB is a wonderful CPU. It competes with or beats the top end 6 core processors in apps that are not heavily multi-threaded.
It's pretty nice that those dell 30 inchers are almost exactly the same size as the iMac.

Apple has done extremely well with mobile devices, but I don't know what Microsoft has to do with that. As far as I know, Windows still has about 90% of the market, and Apple still has a very small share. It looks to me like Apple isn't a huge player in the pc market, but they are the dominant one in the mobile market. Let's not forget that 50% of that $5.99 billion profit came from the iPhone and iPad.

wow thats pretty cool with the option of the trackpad. I think its a must on any iMac. I couldn't live without it. :)

What it comes down to is Microsoft just wants to leech off of a name Apple has worked hard to build over the past few years. I'm sure if Apple did not popularize and create such huge mindshare with the App Store Microsoft would have probably have gone with something like Microsoft Application Marketplace.

Let's just say that I disagree with you 100%. What if you start a small company, should Joe Sixpack down the street have the god-given right to buy shares in your company? If he does, why doesn't he have the right to buy your car if he wants to?

Personally I'd rather pay a lot more for my Macs, have them updated a lot less often and even suffer decreases in the rate of performance improvements, if it meant that the people who manufactured the computers were paid enough to sustain themselves and their families in comfortable, suitable housing with enough money left over for an enjoyable life.
