Why would I want to waste my time learning shorthand (which makes the assumption that TPCs could handle various forms of shorthand) so I could do through writing what I can already do at 70+ WPM via typing. And with typing, it solves the whole problem of handwriting recognition, because there ISN'T ANY.
But most tablets just let you write normally... they're not like PDAs that need Graffiti or something like that...:confused:

Personally, I think that iP4 is the most aesthetically pleasing phone on the market. I'm not surprised to hear they will not change the design because the transition from 3G to 3Gs was similar.
The faster processor isn't necessarily a good enough reason for me to upgrade because the apps that I use regularly perform more than adequately on my iP4 (probably on 3G/3Gs models too). If I decide to start shooting more video (and editing it) or do other heavy lifting on my phone I will consider upgrading.
That being said, I think it is important for Apple to upgrade to a dual core processor, increase the memory, and make it capable of using at least one 4G network to compete with the latest Android based phones on the market.

Apple is one greedy corporation that just loves to attack.. typical of the coming corporate takeover of humanity.
What are you talking about - how does this related to this store? It only shows that Apple was smart enough to plan ahead to make sure they get the components they need - not their fault that other companies lack any planing (or don't understand the market) and don't order in time what they need. Followers have to take what is left.

I think Apple is simply futureproofing here, and we won't see Retina displays for 3+ years, when it would be more feasible.
I agree with you, though, it would be nice if Apple was more serious about their GPUs. Maybe the switch to retina will force them to be.

Keeping the same ratio of X and Y pixels means that the game (as has always been the case) determines what resolution you play in. I doubt we'll see games go that high for at least a few years.

During the Sundance Film Festival which happens here, we were ingesting nearly 12 hours of footage and producing 6 hours of content (live shows, pre-taped shows, packaged shows) a day.
Not to sound harsh or anything, but maybe you guys should be charging more for your services. The way you described how much work you guys are doing over there, you should be able to afford a new MacPro for everyone there...and maybe a couple grip trucks...

Should we really be so confidently predicting that there'll be no MBP or MB upgrades because they "take away" from the excitement of the Media announcements? Surely, 99% of the population couldn't care less when a chip is upgraded, and won't even notice the change. Sure, it might take away from the excitement for some of us geeks on here, but for a lot of people, won't it be a complete non-event, easily eclipsed by the shiny new media stuff?
It's something the press would include in their story. If the laptops are updated separately, the story is 100% about "showtime" stuff.

Aye, and I have noticed that Apple was very smart to market their line as notebooks rather than laptops. A notebook you put on a table and have less of a chance of getting another "McDonald's hot coffee burns lap" suit. :eek:

If someone in my group had sent me a quick email with this equation I would expect to see-
(48/2)(9+3) or 48/[2(9+3)]
This is even more important when the equations I was using were a lot more complex!
Step back a bit. Someone in your group would actually send you an expression that was full of constant numbers rather than reducing that to the answer?
As s a physicist by training I hate it when the meaning is bled out of an expression, by rote plugging in of numbers. Engineers love to do this kind of thing and take a perfectly nice equation, lump a bunch of stuff together and take a few implied logs for good measure and think it still has meaning. :p
I'd expect anyone who knows what they are doing to send something like x/y(a+b) rather than 48/2(9+3). Preferably with an extra pair of parens/brackets to improve clarity. Or send you TeX $\frac{x}{y}(a+b)$ or even code if this was a numerical exercise. This would assist in your sanity checking if, for example, you saw that x was a distance, y was a time and a and b were also times and you knew the expected answer was a distance you'd know that (x/y)*(a+b) was meant. If you were looking for acceleration you might go back to the author and ask, "did you mean (x/[y*(a+b)])?" instead of taking the original expression at its face value.

Jeez, why do people think Apple will make the movie store/movie management part of iTunes? That would be the worst decision ever, the two mediums and two markets are so vastly different they need two seperate apps!
If Apple can just release an iTunes-like app combining Delicious Library style management with playback and the movie store, they've got a winner.
Bungle it in with the music store like they do with TV shows and keep the horrific video management in iTunes to manage them and a lot of people will be sick of it before long.
It could be simple as having two tabs..one for the music store and the other for the movie store.

I always have to laugh at things like this. It's akin to people complaining about having to pay $50 for 12 months of Xbox Live.
$99 a year is a pittance for MoblieMe; break that down over 12 months and it's roughly $8 a month. I don't know about the rest of you, but I know that I easily blow $8 a week on things I don't even remember from week-to-week, let alone setting $8 a month to the side.

One of the barriers to integrating Macs into corporate and business environments is the lack of anti-virus tools. Yeah, you can dismiss this as FUD (and maybe there's some truth to that) but the fact remains--someday, one way or another, there will be a Mac OS X virus. I defy you to find one IT dept. in the country that wants to be caught off-guard by that. If you're going to have Macs in a business environment, the IT staff needs to know that they're protected in the event of an OS X virus outbreak. Whether any OS X viruses exist now or not and whether AV companies are trying to sell products with FUD is irrelevant in that context.
Those of you who want to see wider adoption of Macs in business environments ought to be happy to see this kind of thing showing up, regardless of whether you personally need it or not.

It might be a complete coincidence, or, it might be something related to Sophos-- I didn't have the time to figure it out. YMMV. But, I do suggest some deliberate testing before adopting it on a wider scale.
