Seems unfair to kill someone for robbery. Yes they're breaking the law, but only deserve a prison sentence. Do you really really think someone should be shot and killed for attempting to steal a few laptops and smash a few windows? If you do then man you have issues.
Seems someone doesn't bother to read the article before he responds.
Exchanging gunfire usually results in someone being wounded or killed. Quite frankly, I'd question whether the guard meant for the shot to hit the head or if this was an oddly lucky shot. It really depends on how much training he has had. Kudos for staying alive. Criminals need to understand that their chosen profession comes with risks.

If you said "not just" I might agree. But if you think keyboard capture code isn't being used for identity threat and/or want to lump anyone who has every run into such malware as "stupid" or "gullible" well my opinion of you just keeps dropping even lower. Perhaps I can interest you in some kryptonite Superman?
Keyloggers are not malware, any more than a fork is a weapon. Can they both be used for malicious purposes? Yes. But that doesn't define them as such. And keyloggers require user intervention to install, or require the user giving access to someone else to install, either of which can easily be avoided.
You still haven't presented one argument, even though you've been all over the map, that lends any credibility to the idea that running antivirus is necessary to keep Macs malware-free. The fact is, there is no Mac malware in the wild that can't be avoided with some common sense and prudent action on the part of the user. Well if there are no real consequences to carrying a gun, and shooting it at guards since I might only be facing jail time, it sounds like criminals should try more often. I mean hell, that's a big safety net, they should have tried banks better pay off and they can try multiple times since the only consequence is possible jail time.

I believe the article you refer to is from the '90's. Regardless, blaming fuel efficiency is a typically American attitude. Why not blame the glut of giant SUVs on the road rather than the small cars? Are countless numbers of EU citizens dying because of their tiny tin-foil cars? Oh noes! :eek:

That's probably how I would roll it out if it were up to me.

Yes, the Core Duo (Yonah) is a mobile chip. The Core 2 Duo equivalent is Merom.

Which law firm please. We'd all like to know for future reference, who to not trust our cases with. While most law has to do with the letter of the law, jury trials often are won or lost based on what the jury believes to be the intent or spirit of the law.
The british common law legal system was never intended to be like this. The lawyers have destroyed and twisted it beyond all recognition. It was originally supposed to be based on judeo-christian morals and ethics. There is not supposed to be a grey area. You are either deliberately infringing on the rights of others or you are not. The original intent was to have a court case as the last resort where parties would first try to solve the problem by talking to each other, then go to arbitration and then court as a last resort.

There was no reason at all that such a debate should have evolved into a 3 month conflict, nor was it necessary that it should have ended with Rogue Amoeba having to indulge their customers in a battle with Apple over icons. Having user interface unity is something Apple strives for in all of their products. By giving 3rd party developers the ninth degree over something so ingrained in this product is simply stupid. It does nothing to help the end user, ingrain the confidence of developers, or aid Apple. It just brings out end users and developers with grievances and sharpened pitchforks.

3 Mbps for a 720p movie? That's actually pretty close to a typical broadband download rate... neglecting the 2 GB storage requirements, all they would have to do is add the ability to watch a video as it is being downloaded (I'm pretty sure iTunes currently doesn't do that, which seems rather stupid, although the iTunes video player is also quite clunky) to make that feasible. I would still guess that they'll only do 640x480 or something like that, because it would be "good enough" for most people. If they stick to 320x240 for movies nobody will buy them.
If they can put the menu logic into iTunes, all the "Airport Express A/V" would have do do is add an H264 decoder chip and video DAC to the current Airport Express, that would be a pretty cheap solution. I think there is already a way to plug a remote control via USB into an Airport Express and remote-control iTunes. I don't see any reason why they couldn't fit this into something roughly the same cost as the current Airport Express ($130). Have iTunes for Windows handle simple movie and music playback, have the Mac version do a more full-featured FrontRow experience. Can most current Macs encode 640x480 into H264 or at least MP4 in real time to handle the UI? I suppose they could use a more quick & dirty compression technique for the UI, perhaps something that could take advantage of the large amounts of black background.
The only sticky part is the current AirportExpress is designed to sit on your powerstrip, where an IR receiver wouldn't work. So either you need a receiver on a cord, use an R/F remote instead of IR, or turn it into a "box with a cord" design more like a cable box.

But read the release.
They are using Cingular for just 6 months then offering it to everyone (who wants to take it)
This is a wise decision on a brand new product for lots of obvious reasons.
I personally use Cingular but have my issues with them and all the rest for that matter. (don't waste your $$$ on their lame insurance plan for instance)
Also it would seem that this will not be a US only product.
I know it is hard to be patient with these things....damn it I am frustrated at having to wait 2 weeks for my wireless keyboard and 2 months for my Shuffle.
BUT as they say and the truth is.....ALL good things come to those who wait.

I don't know if they can make the iMacs look better, IMO. They look really nice. hardware improvements would be the best way to keep these machines alive. unless ofcourse they pull of something amazing like they always do lol.
To each their own, but in all reality, these are the best looking "all-in-ones" that i have ever seen.

You can return or exchange it but you'll have to pay a 10% restock fee ($25 or $29 depending on which one you bought). If you bought the 30GB just stick with the "old" 5G. If you bought the 60GB version then $30 is worth the price for another 20GB of storage. But my question to you is, what were you thinking buying an iPod the night before an Apple Special Event focusing on "it's showtime?"

but yesterday was the day that i actually GOT the product being fedexed, and the actual date that i placed an order for it was like 1 and a half week ago....(i was looking for the best deal, the price was the lowest but it took me such a long ass time....bad case of a trade-off... no redeeming quality)
i then was as well hesitant cause i had been informed about this 9/12 rumor, but a certain incident totally URGED me to buy it so i had to, but turns out, i had to cancel the order if only i knew it might take such a long ass time to deliver.......dammit

What I don't get is why can't Apple enable any iOS device (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) as an Airplay target device? Obviously iOS supports it as Apple TV can be a target for Airplay from iTunes.

I do wish I could ultra-boost the audio on-board. Some of the video digitizations I have are too quiet.
i felt the same way as i watched a podcast today. then my brother pointed out "itunes lets you set volume level for each item in itunes: select a song/podcast/whatever. right-click on the selected item and choose "options." set the volume adjustment at a higher level. that will keep the volume for that item higher." He says it was one of many useful tips he found in the Visual Guide to iTunes 6.

- Beta
- VHS
- Super VHS
- CED
- LD, and it variants
- DVD
and now HD-DVD / Bluray
Maybe the key for the format change is to line the companies pockets!

If you climb outside of the typical PC mentality of just added peripherals with higher data rates (you'll eventually get that) ... the bigger issue is in using the light weight, very mobile, long battery life Airs to do the initial creative input on the road ... then link them back to the big, high power computers to finish up the heavy rendering and post production work. Look at the refresh on Final Cut Pro. Look at Adobe's latest offerings ... all with leaning toward iOS. You'll like see a 30 pin adapter for iPad2 and above with thunderbolt out so they can be used as well. Apple is planning on selling more of its offerings and are speeding up the data exchange rates on high performance operations.
As apple goes cloud backup the need for high data transfer rates goes way up.
The bottle neck right now is the carriers both in speed and cost.
