who knows they might release a mini mac style media centre with OSX that will be used to download the movies and allow you to burn it straight to DVD/Blueray lol
Okay, a FrontRow/AirPort Express/iTunes-downloadable Media Center device is SWEET!! I bet that is EXACTLY what we see Apple delivering!!

Nice. My 17 MBP (Early 2009) will be getting close to the end of its life cycle by then, allowing me to easily slide into a new MBP.

isn't the resolution going to be terrible. I don't see these movie downloads working with a hi-def TV. The television shows are pretty pathetic on my old 42" panasonic. 320x240 is going to look terrible on a beautiful sony 1080p television...
this whole idea sounds like a lose lose situation.
You are going to be transfering these choppy looking movies, which will look great on the current ipod video, but lame as heck on a any screen larger than 5 inches.
what's the point? Who wants to buy that? I'd rather rent a movie from netflix or if I really like it, buy the movie at best buy and rip it onto my hard drive, and drop it into my iPOD and watch it later.
I hope there is more than just a new VCR or DVD player.
How about an on demand service through the device, which lets you watch it for one price or copy a lower resolution version of it to your iPOD for another price.
I don't know, but it seems like we are barking up the wrong tree.
Bring on the new processors for the macbook pro!

Between Samsung on the hardware and Google on the software, I can't believe anyone in their right mind actually saying with a straight face that the Samsung phone in question is not stealing from Apple. Get a grip.
The customisation of the Galaxy S has nothing to do with Google at all. This isn't stock Android and none of the Samsung UI elements are a part of the AOSP.

Until a radical shift in our system happens, such as 3rd parties somehow becoming viable, these things will only continue. Institutions are self perpetuating and reinforcing, unless changed from the bottom (the only place such a change can possibly occur), the problems this country faces will only be contributed to and not combated.
First, we need to institute total no-opt-out public financing of all elections. Then we should explore something like an inflexible expiration for all corporate charters, say 9 years (about half a patent term). Dissolution would begin by satisfying the investors and then proceed to establishing non-incorporated component businesses to maintain (if necessary) the products/services the corporation had established, creating a coperative arrangement if appropriate.
Right now, long-lived large business has replaced the problem that the dynamic democratic republic was supposed to address. We have no official peerage, but what we do have is almost indistinguishable.

You know I read these things all the time about how the Windows Phone OS is picking up steam or how many Android units there are out there... I'm not even sure anyone at Apple really cares about these numbers because we're talking about dozens of handsets using those OS's vs a single phone on iOS.
I guess the comparison is important to some people, but until Apple is also making nine different phones, the numbers will never stack up. So what.

Is a streaming box really what you want? I mean, it's one thing to connect my airport express to my bose stereo system and let it play a playlist from my computer in my office, but if we have a streaming video, we still have to go to our office and start the video from the other room. If that's the case, I might as well move my computer to my living room.
They will have to have something that allows you to access your audio and video files with a remote. Maybe an aiport express with a remote control and user interface similar, but better than frontrow.
Right now a mac mini can do all of the things you need it to. You can stream video from another computer on the network, you can connect it to your T.V. and stereo. What would be the point of a new airport extreme if for $200 more you can get an entire compuer.
just some random thoughts...

There's two things going on here...
1) The user who posted about Apple not running MacExpo directly is dead-on. The Expos are of course related to Apple, but are not run by Apple. So decisions made about the day-to-day operations of booths, patrons, etc, are made in-house by whoever is directing that particular show. It's unfortunate that Apple is being thrown under the bus here because they really don't have anything directly to do with it.
2) More importantly, the big problem is the loud minority that has emerged from within Greenpeace (and other similar organizations). There is a growing problem in this country of people taking the "one person can make a difference" idea and translating it into "act inapporpriately and without moral or social constraint, or you wont get noticed." This is GIANT problem. People aren't being held accountable for their actions anymore, especially when their actions are tied to some sort of noble cause.
It's almost is if you can perform some sort of illegal act, but if you say "I did it for Cancer" then you're off the hook, or somehow not at fault anymore. Getting attention for a good cause is wonderful, nobody denies that. But it has to be done the RIGHT way. Intelligently, and within the confines of what's ethical and legal. Otherwise, these groups that are railing against injustice, environmental negligence, or any other cause-du-jour, are just as bad and hypocritical as what they're railing against.
Amen.

Darn, was really hoping for T Mobile compatibility. Oh well, guess this was pretty expected. What about all the CDMA customers? After 6 months? Never?
Well, generally all GSM phones support the 1900mhz band, there is just the catch where European models support 900mhz, while US bound one support 850mhz (Cingular). So it's very likely the iPhone will be usuable on T-Mobile's network if unlocked. The catch is you'll have to buy it at retail price from a Cingular dealer, and get it unlocked (which Cingular might not be willing to do).
As long as the interface is not Cingular branded (like the CIngular Nokia 6030 I use on T-Mobile's network right now), and there's no branding on the phone itself, I might be willing to do that.
YES! Finally, I reap benefits from being with Cingular!!!! :D
What do you mean "finally"? Being the largest U.S. provider means you have always reaped the benefits. I cannot count the number of times I've been eagerly awaiting a certain model phone to come out and when it come here, it's always on Cingular and nobody else.

I mean, imagine where we'd be if Steve Jobs didn't have the forsight to develop an Intel version of OS X from the very beginning, 6 years ago?
Or, that Jobs had the foresight not to kill the x86 build of NextStep when he renamed it OSX.
They didn't create an x86 port, they simply maintained the x86 support when they added PPC support and the rest of OSX
Just like Microsoft for years maintained the PowerPC support in NT - which made it very easy to put a PPC chip in the Xbox 360.
2007 looks like it's definitely going to be the year of the Mac!
Yes, the year when it can be proven that Macs are the same as the Dells and eMachines and Gateways and all the other systems from people who also glue Intel chips to a motherboard. :D

...Maybe I can get a 500GB SSD in there by the time it's released, then I'll have all I want (for now).
I've had a 360GB SSD on order for my 11" MBA for about two months. At times, I've been told it would ship within 4 days; more recently, i was told it would ship by April 4. I suppose if it becomes available now I'll elect to wait til i can get the improved MBA and put the bigger SSD in it. It sure would be comforting if apple would offer those bigger drives as BTO. And I'd place a high premium on a lighted keyboard. Give me those things, and as you say, then I'd have all i want (for now).

The trackpad option is awesome. Every bundled Apple mouse I've gotten for the past 15 years has gone straight in the trash. The only good mouse Apple ever made was the ADB II. At least now I get a free trackpad to play with! Cool!

As much as I doubt that much massive growth, I'm more entertained by the "NEGATIVE" responses.
Not that I agree with them, (because I don't... I've used the WP7 and it's a decent phone with features people like that iOS will NEVER have)...
but mainly because having a negative reaction to a guess as to how other people will spend their money is such a infinitely retarded thing to do. X-D
Seriously, why the hell do any of you even care what type of phone other people decide to use? If you really DO like your iPhone, then you wouldn't.
Only an imbecil would make a personal purchase decision based mainly on what other people do.
The only reason anyone would care (besides being a stockholder, or Apple employee) would be that more than actually liking the phone itself you've bought the phone because you're a joiner.... you want to be 'popular' or in a 'majority'.
(Which honestly is a PATHETIC reason to make ANY purchase.)

What I'm confused about is how the movie downloads will be decent quality and not take FOREVER to download. If the quality is great, the download time is going to be ridiculous. If the quality is bad, no one would even consider buying it.
I would rather buy a 15 dollar DVD, rip it into my iPod and still have a DVD that looks good on my TV. That's just IMO.

We won't see any real change until we hit Santa Rosa.
Kentsfield is two Conroes on a single die. They don't share cache like the previous Pentium D chips. So they'll each have 4 MB of cache and then communicate over the front side bus. This is why I think Apple has got to be thinking about how they can put Kentsfield and then Tigerton - or perhaps beginning with Tigerton if it's a lot cooler - into the next generation of iMacs. If they stick with Merom, they will not get to four mobile cores for another 1-2 years at the soonest - as I understand the roadmap.
Do we know Kentsfield pricing yet? Probably not.
I think a redesign of the iMac's cooling system is imperative so that they can keep Kentsfield/Tigerton cool inside the new design - at least in the 23" model + a 30" model next year. I like the perforated edge approach as a best possible solution depicted here in this 30" aluminum iMac mock-up (I have no idea who created this - sorry). I'm thinking the bottom and top edges would want to be perforated as well. In this mock-up, it's not clear they are.
Body could still be plastic. But Aluminum is a great heat conductor so the whole body would be air cooling the insides like non-fan aluminum hard drive cases do today.

streaming original masters of the song to prevent uploading is very smart, but will probably be only for iTunes purchased songs.
I assume they could do that for all songs they have in the iTunes Store library independent if you purchased through iTunes or not. long as the file is in your iTunes library.
For a song that isn't in the iTunes Store library ( those without the covers) they probably haven't negotiated any rights.
