I was going to ask what the D stands for but I guess that's kind of obvious.

The way I understood, it was capable of playin that resolution in mp4, but not when using AVC/H.264...Right. Mac res for H.264 WAS 320x240 way too small - only the iPod screen res. So H.264 was unpopular because of this limit. Now if the res limit works on teh existing base of 5G 1st gen Video iPods this is HUGE and changes the game completely. See above I am testing this theory now and will report on the result in about a half hour.

Microsoft is still doing very well. They're making the best products they ever have done and as a customer I am very pleased with all of my Microsoft purchases.
- Zune desktop software
- Zune hardware and mobile software
- Windows Phone 7
- Windows 7
- Office 2010
- Office 2011 for Mac
- Xbox 360
- Xbox Live
All great products and deserve to be class leaders if they are not already. I can't think of another company (including Apple) that has put out such a fantastic range of very good products.

hmmm works fine for me :) Took a while longer to load on the iPod (had ablack screen for about 5 secs) but plays fine.OK Please play on computer and get info - Command i - while playing to know for certain it is 640x480 H.264. On the bottom it says Normal Size: What numbers are there? In Format: it will say H.264 if it was encoded that way. Also what is the FPS Number playing? Should be 30.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I want an iTunes Movie Store, but to me it would be a lot better if you had the choice between a $9.99 download and a $2 or $3 rental that expired after a couple days. I honestly don't buy very many movies at all, because I rarely watch a movie twice. I do like to rent them though, and anything that made that more convenient would be great.
I couldn't agree more. Steve was right when he said people don't want to rent their music, they want to own it. The opposite is true about movies. Besides who has that kind of HDD space? I almost never buy movies but we do use Netflix. How about a model just like that. A monthly fee based on how many active movies you can have a one time. You can watch them as long as you like but when you download another you have to give one up.

Yea, I'm not buying this neither the hook, nor the line and certainly it's a stinker.

who the hell are cingular? what about orange t-mobile, vodaphone or o2? I guess it's US only again...
They're GSM, which means the likelihood you'll get the phone outside the States is very high.

looking forward to an Australian deal. Hopefully it will be someone cheap like Virgin - they are "hip and trendy" (at least I think they are...)
hah, they portrayed as that over in Australia too? I love Virgin Mobile for their brochures and other literature covered with cheeky comments.
Yea Sim Free is the only way I'd get an iPhone. No way in hell am I giving up my 7 year old phone number. Sim free, stick in my ancient Virgin Mobile sim card and BAM. We have a winner.
Any idea what kind of "top-secret" features Leopard could support for iPhone?
Let your imaginiations run wild!
I can imagine the iPhone playing these new iPod games. makes total sense. but that's the limit of my imagination for now ;)

Have anybody seen a benchmark which compares the core 2 duo with the actuall core duo?
I can only see benchmarks between core 2 duo and AMD CPU's and standard dual core Pentium 4 cpu.
Thanks

Compare Core Duo vs. AMD. At least until someone does a Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo benchmark.
As Eidorian's link points out, Core Duo (Yonah) performance falls somewhere between the Athlon X2 3800 and the Athlon X2 4200. The 2.40GHz E6600, 2.66GHz E6700, and 2.93GHz X6800 Core 2 Duos in particular are at least 40% faster, which is exactly what Intel promised at the IDF (although they were comparing it against the Pentium D).*yawns*

I have been waiting for the new iMac line-up FOREVER.
This will be my first Mac in my house since an Apple IIe. I used others in school till 1993 and 1996 in college.
Now, I just gotta wait for Lion to be pre-installed on them before I buy.
I'm not going to learn two separate OS in less than 3-4 months. I will be learning from scratch since I'm crossing over from PC thanks to my iPhone 3GS which i'm upgrading to an iPhone 5 as well...

That's describing a machine identical to the current Mac Pro, so anything based on it is going to be in the same price brackets.

Agreed-UK is next to get TV shows-perhaps BBC will offer its shows.
It had better do. The British public (those who pay license, which like 99% do) has the legal right to every single piece of footage, news story, radio recording etc. etc. the BBC has ever produced, but we have access to about 1% of it.
It's a big point of controversy here. Partly it's been due to technology limitations, but pretty soon there'll be no excuse, and the BBC should be right off the bat finding new ways to deliver what belongs to us.

My wife busted her phone today, and called me for a recommendation. All she wants as a Mom is a phone with a long battery life and great reception.
She left the Cingular store with a crappy phone with a million features she will never use.
It's too bad the Motorola MOTOFONE (http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=164) isn't available yet. It would have been perfect. A phone where battery life, reception and ease of use are the main features? Finally some gets it.

Face it...your ideas are crap.
The free market would suck if it were run in the way your brain imagines it. But imagine if you ran a company, and your chief goal is to make a profit. Having happy employees who are payed fairly and receive vacation days, benefits, etc, is definitely a better business model than working your employees like slaves.
Benefits shouldn't be government regulated. However, the slave labor that you describe should most certainly not be allowed, duh. Try cutting back on the straw man argument some.
It's humorous that when people imagine a free market, they ignore that in a free market, employers would be fighting for good employees as much as employees are fighting for the employers.
It's sad that the government is the largest charity, because it's just so darn inefficient. I have an idea. Private charity.
For all the bleeding heart liberals I've spoken with over the years, who want crazy amounts taxed in order to support social uplift programs, I never see any of them giving away 50+% of their income to charity. It's a lot easier to ask the government to give other peoples money to charity.
I can tell you right now that my family gives >50% of its total income.
However, if you think that taxes = charity, what incentive do you have to give? (to the organizations that are 90+% efficient rather than whatever the crap the government is)

okay.
so if a 720p movie is 3 GB and a lot of you are saying it currently can take "forever" for video to download through the iTune Music Store, my question is, how long is "forever" to you all? i've lived in korea, and, on occasion, downloaded 3 GB in about one minute, so my perspective is pretty poor.
i live in tokyo, where i get fantastic, fantastic fiber internet (and pay much for the pleasure), which yields pretty nice download speeds.
i have never used the iTunes store! i have iTunes on my terrible, terrible PC here at work here at this Evil Corporation of mine, and i will be buying a MacBook Pro the moment Core 2 Duo is confirmed, so i might as well start using iTunes to download whatever pleases me. i only hope i can download some american television programs with a japanese iTunes account. or . . . maybe not? i don't know how it's going to work. i'll look into it!!
would really like a new iPod!! my old 40GB workhorse finally fell over dead, a whole six months after the warranty was done for, so i'd love some big giant iPod video breakthrough.
very excited to see what kind of distribution system they're looking at, seeing as it will affect both my life (40" 1080p bravia X series at home!!) and my . . . job.
either way, this is all very exciting!! i just hope Core 2 Duo is announced. i want my 20%!!
also, did anyone else notice that nintendo is doing press conferences world-wide on september 14th, unveiling the price and release of their Wii console?
that company is looking more and more like apple every day.

both articles say the division/business unit that the x-box is in finally turned a profit. in 2010 this unit also included Office for Mac and Zune. the latest earnings release has no mention of Office for Mac in this unit but it still has windows phone and Microsoft's IP Television unit. ironically the big profit jump came after office for mac was kicked out of the unit
i'm bet x-box has been doing just fine and that windows phone and the IPTV units are the loss leaders
at some point apple is going to stop growing because the market penetration of smartphones will be at the point where you are just selling replacement phones. since AT&T opened the floodgates last year for early upgrades we'll see how things go this year
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6140383.html
Microsoft itself claimed the Xbox was a loss leader. Back in back in etc. I guess you can argue that with them, too. Those other items are small potatoes in both cost and revenue in comparison. The Xbox IS that division when it comes to finance.
Office for Mac...it has almost zero cost. A few programmers.

I did, at the time, it said mid-product cycle. And I had to have the computer for school, so I had to get it then. I'm just sad.
I know your pain... Just this friday I received an unexpected e-mail from the Uni, telling me to fill the paperwork for the Erasmus (an european interchange programme, for which I supposedly was not accepted for having not-so-great grades... :o )! Now I'll probably have to get a MacBook come September, whether it has a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo inside... I'm figuring it will have the first, even though the latter would be preety sweet. Damn!
Anyway, either processor will kick my rev.A 20'' iMac G5's ass any day of the week (13'' is tiny, but I can always get an external monitor to go with it later when I come back, now that you can hook'em up without the need for hacks...)!
