Our club is scheduled for 2 homecomings tonight, I'm the point person for one, and the co-chairman of the point person for the other.
I just spoke with my contact at the school, just to make sure we had each other's cell phone numbers, and to verify the time of arrival.
Cathy: Oh, Marlene, I was just thinking that I should call you.
Me: Oh, isn't that funny, great minds think alike.
Laughter
Cathy: How many cars are we getting tonight?
(My thought: GULP. It's 11am on day of your homecoming and you're asking me about how many cars???)
Me: 5
Cathy: Any chance we could get 6?
(Me: Cough, cough, choke, choke)
Me: Gee, I don't know. It's short notice and we've got a second homecoming for tonight that's already scheduled and filled.
Cathy: Please.
I checked the roster for her school and fortunately we have one additional car showing up, to be used as an alternate. Thank goodness.
Me: Oh, I just checked the roster and there will be one more car there. We're good to go.
Cathy: Thanks, Marlene, you're great.
Right. I can pull Corvettes out of my butt. Ha!
I'm not even mentioning the bind that we're in for October 15. 3 schools and we're not full at any of them. But, heh, that's a week away.
Getting back to tonight's homecoming .... I dearly love this school. It's an inner-city school, mostly minorities. I feel like such a Democrat when I'm there.
