Feast of St. Agrippina di Mineo

Sant' Agrippina di Mineo was a beautiful blond princess who was unmercifully tortured to death by the emperor of Rome, Emperor Valerian in 256 AD. After her death, her body was taken from Rome to Mineo, Sicily by three holy women; Bassa, Paula, and Agatonica.

Sant' Agrippina is the patron saint of thunderstorms, leprosy and evil spirit. Her feast day is celebrated on the first weekend in August.

Nelson Shin And Ken Siu To Direct FUTURE FIGHTERS

Written By: Ken Hulsey

As expected Hong Kong based Agog Films Productions to advantage of all the media attention of the San Diego Comic Con to announce that they had chosen two directors for their giant robot epic, "Future Fighters". The multi-national production will now be under the direction of Korean film maker Nelson Shin, who served as director/producer of the 1986 animated "Transformers" movie, and Hong Kong director Ken Siu, who is best known for his work on "The Forbidden Kingdom", "Fearless" and "Rush Hour".

Here is some background info on Nelson Shin from Wikipedia:

Nelson Shin (b. 1939; Korean name: Shin Neung-kyun(신능균)) is the founder and president of Akom Production Co., Ltd., in Seoul, South Korea. He founded Akom in 1985.

In the 1970s, Shin worked as an animator at the DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, where he worked on the Pink Panther films. He is also credited with creating the glowing lightsaber blade used by Jedi Knights in the first Star Wars movie released and other subsequent Star Wars films.

Much of the animation Shin's studio has produced has been for American television series. Some of Akom's credits are: The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men, Invasion America and Arthur. Shin's most well-known accomplishment is his direction of the television series The Transformers and Transformers: The Movie. Akom's lead animator is Kim Jun-bok.

Beginning in 1999, Shin worked on the animated feature film Empress Chung. The film was largely animated in North Korea, and in August 2005 became the first movie ever to open simultaneously in North and South Korea.

In 2009 he was elected president of the International Animated Film Association, a post he is to hold until 2012.

It was also announced that Japanese action star Rina Takeda has joined the international cast along with Ray Park (The Phantom Menace), Eriko Satô (Cutie Honey), Lisa Sa (Lisa Cheng)(Chinese model, athlete and gymnast) and Yasaki “David” Kurata (Blood: The Last Vampire).

The 3D effects for "Future Fighters" will be handled by New Zealand based WETA Digital, who also handled the effects for Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "King Kong", "District 9", the Korean monster film "The Host", "Avatar" and the upcoming "Planet of the Apes" reboot "Rise of the Apes".

The film is heavily inspired by the two Japanese animated series "Macross" (Robotech) and "Patlabor" as producer Guy Orlebar explains, "This Macross story is basically a love‐triangle between the main three characters set against a war between humans and big green aliens who battle in these fantastic robotic fighters. The robots, or mecha — the Japanese word for mechanical designs — are treated as little more than part of the background, and instead it’s the human drama between the three characters that takes centre stage — something which is also very similar to the Japanese TV show, and two of Mamoru Oshii’s animated feature films, Patlabor, where the robots in that show are really nothing more than fancy police patrol cars but still looked so cool and made the show so distinctive."

Sounds like my kind of movie!

North Korea Attacks Hawaii

North Korea Attacks Hawaii Decision By The Pentagon On Whether

A new missile launch though not expected to reach United States. territory would be a brazen slap in the face of the international community which punished North Korea with new United Nations. sanctions for conducting a second nuclear test on May 25 in defiance of a U.N. ban.

Any launching of a missile towards Hawaii would increase tensions and require an instant decision by the Pentagon on whether to attempt an interception which may not work.A failure by the United States to shoot down such a missile might embolden the North Koreans.

The United States. moves come as strains intensify between the United States. and North Korea. Earlier this year Pyongyang test-fired a missile that flew over Japan before crashing into the Pacific Ocean. On May 25 Pyongyang detonated a nuclear device at a test site near its border with China drawing rare rebukes from Moscow and Beijing.

Theexercises called Invincible Spirit and include an Aegis-class destroyers with anti-missile systems the newest technology in order to repel the missiles of the type thatNorth Korea tested over the years.

At The Quilt Show

Last weekend I volunteered for The Basket Makers of Victoria which I'm a member of. I haven't been a very active member, but when they called for volunteers to do duty at  shows or exhibitions I always make time for them. This time the duty was at the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair so it wasn't hard spending the time there. My roster was from 1:00 - 5:00, but I got there early to have a look at the quilts and the stalls before I started my duty. I took some photos of the quilts before it got too crowded. I spotted some nice quilts that I thought you might enjoy them.
Some gorgeous quilts were on display at the show. I  didn't get the name of the makers and I hope that they will not mind me showing them off to the world to admire.
The light is never good in the hall for photographs. I suppose it is intentional to protect the quilts from strong light.
The Civil War Bride Quilt made by my friend Ronnie (no blog yet) was featured there too. I was so thrilled to see it hanging up. Ronnie did a great job hand appliquéing and hand quilting it. You can't tell the difference between it and the original.
Some baskets made by members of Basketmakers of VIC displayed on the table. The blue cylinder shape is made from bread bags twine and then stitched.
Here I was at the BOV booth. Nothing is for sale and we were only allowed to display and promote our guild. I think it is a good idea that the show organisers included guilds from Victoria to display there. They are knitting, spinning & weaving, tatting, quilting, embroidery, calligraphy and many other guilds; I can't remember them all now. What I enjoyed most being there was  meeting new budding crafters. I particularly enjoyed promoting basketry because it's a great way to appreciate our surroundings and the environment. In basketry we use most of the plant fibres from our gardens, found objects and of course, it is a great community to belong to.  I will blog some of my baskets to show you here one day. I made quite a few of them before I started blogging and sometimes forget about them.

The First Look At Road Runner And Wile E Coyote In 3D!

Trouble ahead for Wile E. Coyote as his chase of the Road Runner has led to a tunnel of oncoming doom in "Coyote Falls," an all-new 3-D animated short produced by Warner Bros. Animation which will accompany the Warner Bros. theatrical release of "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore."

Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, two of the most popular Looney Tunes characters of all time, are returning to the big screen in three all-new animated 3D shorts. The studio will attach the cartoon shorts to three of its upcoming family features--all three features to be released this year in 3D. The first short will be seen with "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," on July 30th; the second with "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," on September 24th; and the third with "Yogi Bear," on December 17th. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.

In the new cartoon shorts, each three minutes in length, Wile E. Coyote is as determined as ever to catch the elusive Road Runner, who continues to leave his hapless nemesis in the dust with a taunting "beep-beep." However, bringing the classic characters into the 21st century, the resourceful Wile E. will now be employing an arsenal of state-of-the-art ACME gadgets to snag his quarry--with all of the action in stereographic 3D.

In making the announcement, Fellman said, "Audiences have always delighted in Wile E. Coyote's dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, with hilarious, albeit predictable, results. We are thrilled to be presenting these characters for the first time in 3D, which will heighten the excitement and humor of the chase, not to mention the impact--at least for Wile E. We're sure these three new adventures will entertain a new generation of fans while reminding us all why these two characters have been beloved for so long."

"Fur of Flying"
Release with "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole": 09/24/10
With an assortment of mail order products, Wile E. Coyote fashions himself a homemade helicopter helmet. Soaring through the sky and over the cliffs, it's a surefire way to catch the Road Runner...assuming he stays out of the military testing grounds.

"Rabid Rider"
Release with "Yogi Bear": 12/17/10
Wile E. Coyote 's latest plan involves a state-of-the-art, two-wheeled, self-balancing, electric scooter. With the Road Runner in his sights, what could go wrong? Famous last words.

BEST wedding video

Oh. Lordy. Max and Margaux's wedding video (by Shark Pig) is the most joyous and beautifully edited wedding video I've ever seen. My heart is all aflutter. Amazing. (Love the dancing feet!)

I met my WeightWatchers goal weight today

Yay.  I've lost a total of 49 lbs. since January 2 of this year.  Averages out to 7 lbs. a month.  Slow, but steady.  I'm pleased.

This picture was taken last Christmas at the TampaBayVettes holiday party, and it was my inspiration.  I took one look at it, and knew something had to be done.  And I was at a WeightWatchers meeting on January 2nd.

Scroll 6 posts down for pic taken last Sunday.

Have a happy weekend (+ Bachelorette finale on Monday!)

My sweets, what are your plans for the weekend? Alex and I are having a date night tomorrow and riding bikes to Brooklyn for Mexican food. I'm looking forward to being out in the world with my husband again...but know I'll be texting the babysitter every five minutes. :)

So, the Bachelorette finale is on Monday!!! I'd LOVE to have "live commenting" on Cup of Jo. I'll put up a post on Monday, and then we can all chat and gossip by commenting on the post throughout the show (8-10 EST). It'll be like watching the episode with fifty girl friends. :) Are you in? I'm so excited.

Meanwhile, here are a few great posts from around the web...

Cute ensemble, especially for a 16-year-old!

I do like to be beside the seaside.

Porter got me into wearing comfy moccasins, especially while traveling. I like these.

Ruler stairs.

What a fun jump print.

There's a Bachelor video game?

Random tip: I'm loving Benetint lip balm this summer. It gives you that perfect just-ate-a-popsicle look.

Chris Rock's documentary -- Good Hair -- looks awesome.

Plus, three Cup of Jo posts you may have missed:
* A thank-you note every day
* Audrey Hepburn's pet deer
* Yummy cupcakes

Current read

I saw this book on a recommended book list somewhere, I don't know if it was Oprah, or where, but I requested it at the library and it came.  I picked it up last night, and started it today.  So far it's grabbed my interest and looks like I may stick with it to the end.  All 508 pages of it.  That's about 200 more than I usually give a book, but what the hell.

It takes place in Chicago, then the main character is now on his way to West Baden, IN and French Lick, IN for a story.

We'll see how I do with it.
