Pizza Hut delivery

11:30pm
I was just out on the balcony with Maguire and saw a Pizza Hut delivery car drive by to turn into the condo parking lot. I felt like running down 4 flights to see where he was going, and then invite myself in.

I'm so hungry. There's no groceries here and I didn't feel like going out to grab something for dinner as everything would entail me driving west and didn't want to drive into that direct sunlight with no sunglasses and only one eye working.

So today I had 2 Milano cookies and coffee for breakfast, and a McDonald's fish sandwich, which I ate at the nail salon, for lunch. Seriously considering going to Jimbo's for a nice breakfast tomorrow before 9:30a eye doctor appt. In fact, I'm planning on it. I'm hungry.

Then I'll do grocery shopping after the appointment.

Not looking good, not feeling good

6:30pm

I just took this pic. It's not looking good, is it? I am in so much pain, I wish I would have asked for a pain killer prescription. At least my eye was open more when I first came back from doctor, but he had used numbing drops. Well, it's quite obvious that the numbness has worn off and I am not feeling well.

I can't sleep, so I lay in bed with my eyes shut. Well, that lasts about 20 minutes. The only way I'm able to type on this computer is I've got one dim light on and there's no sun blasting in.

It's gonna be a long night.

Ever have an eye dr scrape your cornea?

4:15pm
Here's the most recent pic. I just got back from the doctor. First question he asked me was did I get into a fight last night? Secondly, what did the other person look like? Ha ha, they're all so funny.

His first comment was that the eyelid is definitely swollen. (And I thought .... you went to how many years of Optometry school for that???)

There was a tiny, tiny, tiny particle on the cornea that he thinks may be the cause. Put some numbing drops in my eye, had me brace my chin & forehead, and voila!

I've filled my prescription since he was adamant that I do it right away as there's no outer layer on my cornea and it's prone to infection. I've already put the drops in, and will do so at least 3x this evening.

My follow-up appointment is tomorrow at 9:30am. Now I'm going to try to get some rest.

It's getting worse

10:40am
My eye is closing more, and it hurts. And I can't sleep.

Changed nail appt to 12:30pm

9:50am
There. That gives me time to "rest my eye(s)".

Nite.

The saga continues

9:35am
I called the first doctor on the list. He's an optometrist ONLY.
Next name on list: no doctors in this morning, but the girl was real nice and said I really need to see someone today because it might be an abrasion or ulcer in the eye and they don't want to risk an infection setting in. This will now fall under my medical insurance, not vision insurance, and she asked me who my carrier was.

She's going to make a few phone calls and see if she can get me in somewhere this afternoon.

OMG, she just called back. I've got a 2:30p appt today with another doctor; plus she sked a 9:30a appt tomorrow with her office, just in case it's necessary.

She did say that I should lay down & keep my eyes closed as much as possible. Ah, my kind of therapy. I can do that! Except, I'm getting my nails & toes done @ 11am. Ah, priorities.

My right eye

8:45am
I don't know what happened, but I woke up at 4am with my right eye tearing. I didn't have my contacts in and it was hurting. I stayed with it till 5, then when upstairs to shower & put my contacts in. I thought that would hurt, but it didn't.

I played a game of pinnochle, and the eye started to tear up throughout the game.

Took the contacts out and put on my glasses. My right eye's drooping.

I called Member Services of my insurance company to see if I needed a referral from my primary care physician to go to an ophthamalogist. However, because TYLin is based out of San Francisco they use Blue Cross California and their hours are 6:30am-12Mid Pacific time.

I'll call at 9:30am (my time) and see what I need to do. I'd like to make an appt for Friday and if there's some miraculous healing between now & then, I can always cancel.

On another note, it was cool enough this morning that I could open the windows. Yay! It's so nice to shower and then sit out on the balcony and not immediately feel like another shower is needed. ha!

The wedding was held at friend Irving Azoff mansion in Beverly Hills.

The entire wedding ceremony was filmed for the reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians and will air in a upcoming episode.

Among the invited guests were Kelly Osbourne, Ryan Seacrest, Jillian Barbari, Chelsea Handler, Kobe and Vanessa Bryant, Alan Thicke, Joe Francis, Joel Silver, Lara Spencer, Brittny Gastineau, Adrienne Bailon, Lala Vasquez.

Also in attendance from the Lakers team were Lakers coach Phil Jackson, general manager Mitch Kupchak and players Ron Artest, Derek Fisher, Luke Walton and Sasha Vujacic.

High School Accounting Department

2:30pm
I just received a phone call from one of the teachers at a school that TBV is providing cars (15) for their homecoming. She's at the horns of a dilemma because the school accounting department doesn't want to cut us a check ($225) because TampaBayVettes is not on the official Hillsborough County Schools vendor list.

The teacher explained to accounting that our club donates the money to charity, it's not going into any of the participants' pockets or anything like that. (The school is charged $15 per vehicle.)

I told the teacher that we already received a check from 2 other schools and they were both in Hillsborough County.

I offered to call Bloomingdale HS to find out where they applied our invoice for payment and the teacher was most appreciative.

I did call, spoke to my contact there, and she's going to call the other school and see if she can help. How nice is that?

Weather today

8:35am
I read in this morning's paper that a cold front will enter the Bay Area tonight, bringing nightly low temps in the 60's for Wed, Thur & Fri. But the highs for those days will be mid- to upper 80's. Gee, I don't know why I'm getting this sinus headache.

All I did was take Maguire out

8:00am
.... and now I've got this friggin' sinus headache starting to build. On the eyebrow bone over my right eye.

I woke up around 7:45a today (it's amazing how I'm sleeping later and later), started the coffee brewing, took out Maguire, and now I can feel it coming on. I'll take 2 aspirin after breakfast (2 milano cookies and a cup of coffee, great breakfast, right?) and maybe it'll go away. Hope so.

Requested, and then received

6:00pm
The most recent time that we made a Costco run, I dropped Peter off with the list and I went & refueled the vehicle and made a quick stop at Target.

One of the items on the Costco list was "anchovies". They package them 5 boxes to a package (for lack of another term) and I've been getting these for oh, at least 3 years. Looks like this:

We came home and unloaded all purchases, which weren't very many as not too much can fit in the Vette. And as I was emptying the items out, I saw a cardboard box. A cardboard box of anchovies? You've got to be kidding. How many pkgs were in that box? 25. See next pic.

I mean, this will last me a year!!!

Varnums, welcome to 2009

11:00am
OMG, I feel so hip. We now have a printer that makes copies. So I, too, have a home copier. ha!

The other printer died, the piece that grabs the paper just quit working. So, for some ridiculous price ($79) we got a HP color printer that copies and scans, too. Woo hoo!

And here I always thought that they were exhorbitantly expensive and unnecessary. I've used that copy function several times and scanned just a few times.

Pics from pre-breakfast run

1:00pm
Here's a few quick pics from this morning's breakfast run. That's Cindy, George, me, Theresa & Susan. George LOVES to get his picture taken with the girls. ha!This is me and Holly, Tommy's new girlfriend. I'm so happy for him. He's finally found someone to share his interests in Corvettes. Holly attends all the breakfast runs and comes to the end of our meetings after she gets off work so she can dine with us afterwards. She's real nice. Destination was Little Harbor in Ruskin, a quaint remote resort. I wouldn't want to stay there for a week, I mean really ..... Ruskin???? But if one was into fishing and boating, it would be a nice place. I guess.
It went well. We sat at a table with all of our friends, although 6 of them weren't there. Must be too tired from the wedding last night.
But, oh well, that's behind now and it's time to go on.

Hankie Corner Quilt

Apart from working on the CWBQ block I have not done anything else for ages. It is a lot of work to applique the CWBQ and I am only half way through the Bridal block this week. Don't let me scare you off from starting the CWBQ, it is so much fun and very enjoyable when you have the time. I started this hankie corner quilt a few years ago and finally got it back from machine quilting.

Donna Ward lives in Hamilton, New Zealand. Donna has been quilting for me for more than 10 years now. Without her I wouldn't have finished any quilts. She is a life saver. Donna used to quilt from home, but now she has opened a quilt shop and offers a machine quilting service as well. If you are ever in Hamilton, New Zealand her shop is a must to visit.

Hankie corners is just what it is. I started with a 3.5" square and sewed the strips around two sides of it using light and dark effects. It is the same as log-cabin, but only worked on two sides.

This quilt is made from totally random scraps. I made it for our guest room that has a yellow feature wall and I wanted something with lots of yellow on it. I have used yellow paisley prints for the border. You can see a bit of it in the top picture.

I told Donna that I would like to use this quilt on both sides so Donna quilted it with a pattern of lovely flowers and leaves using variegated yellow thread. The patch you see here is my label. I have not got around to writing on it yet. I might attach the label on the top part of the quilt and leave it flapping for when I use the other side of the quilt. I hope it works.

The latest thing I'm hearing

10:10pm
I get aggravated when the following type of conversation takes place:

Question, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed?

I hate, hate, hate prefacing a question with the word "Question". It's so ala Dwight Schrute in the Office and I wish people would stoppit.

It's making me nutz.

100,000 Sudokus today

5:45pm
Well, ok, maybe 100 (at least. ha!). I rode shotgun round trip to Haines City today so I completed many, many Sudoku puzzles, all on Medium level. Yay. I missed maybe only 2 or 3, so that's good.

On the way home, we stopped at Hooters in Lakeland to split a pitcher of beer. We sat at the bar, I was working my puzzles and Peter was watching USF vs. FSU game. The waitress was in total awe that I could work the Sudoku. She said that she's tried many times, and it takes her quite a bit of time, and she's just not real good at it.

I gave her encouraging words, telling her that she just needs to do more. She'll get quicker at it and more efficient.

We both agreed that these are addictive.

And, in keeping with my skill rising in Sudoku, my pinochle rating in pogo is falling. Drastically. It's now 1495. grrr. Oh well.

It's now bottom of the 5th, 0-0. We'll leave after the game for dinner. You can be sure it will be the END of the game before we walk out the door.

Thought For Days

Admiration not Envy
Very fortunate is the one who has learned to admire, but not to envy. To envy others neither diminishes their good fortune nor increases your own.

The Best
The best ornament is Humility. The richest wealth is Wisdom. The strongest weapon is Patience. The best security is Faith. The best tonic is Laughter.

The Truth About Illusion
Illusion is the idea that people should be, and do, what we want them to. The truth is, all is as it should be, despite appearances or our perceptions of others to the contrary.

Serenity and Spiritual Beauty
Beauty comes with self acceptance, self love and self awareness. Self knowledge is equivalent to truth which brings serenity and spiritual beauty.

Meditation
Though the mind often asks for what is visible or material, its needs are deeper and cannot be met by anything superficial or short term. Meditation leads to a meeting point with all that is true and eternal.

Seeing Things Truly
We tend to see things not as they are, but as we are. Becoming quiet and simple inside is the first step towards seeing things truly.

Self-confidence
Self-confidence is to know your way around yourself so instinctively that you always have a strength to draw on. Somewhere inside, from the stillness, you always find something that can meet your need.

Good Wishes
The more good wishes and kind feelings we have for others, the more our own happiness increases.

Just Having Fun
Work without happiness is like a burden that you have to endure, but when you are internally happy it becomes a game, and you're just having fun.

Harmony
Even when another person seems a world apart from you: find a bridge.

Give Up the Habit of Worrying
As we grow in strength in our spiritual life, we give up the habit of worrying. It serves no purpose other than to make us feel tense and miserable. When I stop fretting about things that are beyond my control and focus instead on generating optimistic and kind thoughts, my life can begin to flow in ever more positive directions. Such a light and easy approach to life enables me to take everything in my stride.

Cooking and Eating
Cook and eat with powerful vibrations. By placing great importance on cooking and eating with loving and peaceful vibrations, you will nourish both mind and body.

Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm frees the self from obstacles and brings benefit to all.

Well, those tees that we wore last night didn't exactly work out. I had on a Bruins one, Peter was wearing Patriots. You can be sure that for this afternoon's game we'll both be wearing RedSox garb.

Need the RedSox to win at least 1 game this weekend to win the season series against the Yankees.

AFL Grand Final Today

AFL (Australian Football League) is the biggest event in Melbourne right now. It is a yearly event that happens on the last Saturday of September. In Australia they call it the Footy. I am so thrilled to blog about it, even though I know almost nil about the game.

The Melbournians think that everyone should know about AFL! I didn't at first, so straight off I had to choose a team, and that was a few weeks before the grand final 04. To get myself out of trouble I said whoever won the grand final would be my team. It ended up that Sydney Swans won the grand final that year and that was then. Since then, they have not won again. Apparently one shouldn't change the team, but I think I am going divorce them and adopt the team that wins this year's Grand Final.

It's hard to choose because this year's final is between St. Kilda and Geelong and I like both of them. Woo hoo, how can I choose! So guys, play hard and win the game so I can choose you.

Photo of the cup in yesterday's parade in Melbourne between the Geelong and St. Kilda players. Sorry guys I don't know your name, but promised that once I adopt either one of your teams I will get to know you better.

The game started at 2:30 PM today. This is a live picture from the AFL Official Website.
The blue and white is Geelong and the black, white and red is St. Kilda.

Hey hey cool it, two against one is not nice. Where are the rest of them.

I think they are shaking hands! Such great photos, I have borrow them from the AFL official website. I am so excited to be able to blog about the AFL Grand Final. I have adopted Melbourne as our city, and it is good to know what the locals are up too. I dedicate this post to all blogger husbands out there who are interested in the Footy. If you want to know the result you can check out the above links. Enjoy the game and I will get back to some quilting soon.

How-To-Make-Coffee-@-Home

7:30am
I need to take lessons. Even though I've been brewing coffee @ home for oh so many years, the past two weeks I've been missing the container to deposit the grounds. Oh, some grounds get on the counter (alot of them). Some get on the outside of the filter. Some get on the rim of the container that holds the filter.

I've figured out what the problem is. I need to wake up. But the solution to that problem is having a cup of coffee. So .... how do I fix this??? ha!

Home now

3:40pm
I got home safe. Stopped for a quick bite in Sarasota (and a cold beer), then picked up Maguire before coming home. I'm all unpacked and got a load of laundry started already.

Peter just called, he is just approaching the beginning of Alligator Alley, so he'll be home around 7pm-ish. Dinner tonight is spaghetti, garlic stix and salad. Not too exciting, but easy. Oh, and a bottle of wine.

(side note: there's a great country song "A bottle of wine & Patsy Cline". OMG, talk about a cry-in-your-beer song. Some say that combination is a great cure all. But I digress.)

Tomorrow we'll be running errands. You can be sure that whatever is on the agenda will be completed by 7pm. Big series this weekend. Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Sunday night. RedSox @ Yankees.

We'll be doing mom visits on Saturday, sure to be back by 3:30pm.

Fashion Week Bloopers - from Wardrobe Malfunctions to Yawns

Kim Kardashian has a huge sleepy yawn during fashion show NYC
Kim Kardashian lets out a might yawn at NYFW

Fashion Week can be trying, especially keeping up with all the fashion designer shows in New York, London, Paris, and Milan.

Sometimes a picture can sum up the strains of fashion week on the celebrity participants and sometimes a photo can just make your mouth drop.

Kim Kardashian Yawns

In this case, it just might have been the yawn that was heard around the world, or more likely, around the tents.

We just love viewing this climatic series of photos as they build into this mighty - drum roll - the yawn from Kim Kardashian.

Zac Posen paints models outside Bergdorf Goodman in NYC
Zac Posen paints in front of Bergdorf Goodman store

Yes, she is a brunette again, and yes she definitely has a big mouth, as she lets go an explosive yawn.

Yep, keeping up with the Kardashians may be easier than keeping up with fashion week - sweet dreams, Kim.

Zac Posen Paints Model

We know that designers love to designer and painters love to paint.

So what could be more fitting on fashion night out than for a fashion designer to paint the town?

Trias - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW
Runway model plays a game of peak-a-booat at Trias fashion show

Well, in this case the fashion designer and painter is Zac Posen.

So in honor of fashion night out, designer - painter Zac Posen paints a model in front of Bergdorf Goodman store window.

Braless Fashion and Sliding Top

We know that a lot goes into creating those exciting runway fashions for fashion week and that every move in a runway way fashion show is carefully orchestrated.

But what happens when that beautiful, black silk top and the braless model's bosom venture down a different path.

Well, as that old song recants - something got to give.

In this case, it is bosom takes the left lane; blouse takes the right lane or is it just another case of sexy peek-a-boo on the runway.

If you cannot see the photos in your E-mail or news reader, just go to Fashion Week Bloopers - from Wardrobe Malfunctions to Yawns.

My Working Life

It's been 6 months I have been working in an audit firm here. 6 months is like a long period. A lot of things to do during some period and sometimes nothing to do. Just like these few weeks. I had been doing nothing but just bring my textbook to office to study. But, in the end, I just flip at the same page and talk with my colleague. Hoping the time pass by faster.

Last week, my manager informed us that some of us may go to Bintulu to work. Then few days later, me and some of my colleagues were told by our senior to prepare ourselves to go to Bintulu. May be for 2 weeks. Haii.. What a surprise.. This may be my first time outstation for work if we really get that. Till now, we still not sure if we will get it or not. Bintulu.. 2 weeks.. I am sure that I will miss home.

Besides that, I was told also if my colleague doesn't want to go to KK to audit, I will replace her to go. A surprise again. This time also 2 weeks. But, in KK. I have to handle one company account in 2 weeks. Haii.. Again.. For me, it may be good. Since I can learn more things and explore to other places. But, I have to away from home for 2 weeks. No time to study for my December exam. As I have many assignment to rush which due in December. Hope I can finish it on time.

Now, I just pray that anything will go smoothly and accordingly. Plus oil.. ^^v

Miami

11pm
I decided to make a quick trip down to Miami to spend a few days with Peter. I drove down late morning today, had lunch in Ft. Myers, and checked into hotel around 3pm. Staying at the Courtyard by Marriott right by Miami Int'l Airport and I must say that I'm quite taken by this place. It's recently been extensively renovated, and I do mean extensivey. OMG, I wish I could hire the decorator to come do the condo. While I didn't bring my camera, I have taken some pics with my cell phone. Several have already been posted on Facebook, but I realize Mom and Auntie Kutchy don't have access to Facebook. Below is a picture of the computer area in the lobby. All computers are Sony brand. Nice.

The humidity level down here is substantially more than Tampa and I arrived with a sinus headache. But a nap before dinner and aspirin before a nice dinner at Islamorada Fish Company relieved it.

The restaurant is attached to a Bass Pro Shop. While waiting in the lobby area before exiting, I strolled over to the store and a group of pictures caught my eye. Not that I want pictures of fish, but the artist was Guy Harvey (never heard of him) and he had a nice logo of his name. Here 's my version of it:

I wrote it out the best I could, using the folder for my hotel room key. I've since tried it with my name, but I just don't have the right letters. It really needs a name with tall letters that could extend above and below the line. I think this one would look good, it's the name of the daughter of my boss @ SunTrust: Stephanie Serravezza. I think that's a pretty name.
